A little fragileNov 30, 2006
By catfishmass We bought this slicer last year at a specialty kitchen store. It does exactly what it needs to, and is pretty easy to clean up. However, the construction wore out after about six months worth of use. The blades actually popped out of the assembly while chopping a particularly hard piece of produce. All in all I wouldn't recommend it for anything harder than an onion or potato.

has shortcomingsApr 28, 2008
By Linda B I purchased this based on the positive reviews and high rating it received. I think it was a little inflated. You have to be sure to take off the top rubbery layers of the onion as it won't cut through them very well. Then you have to wiggle it back and forth to get it to cut because it's not a very sturdy product. Also, if you push down too quickly, the onion pieces will spring out onto the counter. I do like the little insert that goes on the non-cutter side, which makes it easier to clean. I would not recommend using this product for anything harder than an onion. I like it better now that I figured out the quirks, but you should know up front that it's got some problems

Can't live without my AlligatorFeb 11, 2008
By Good baker I've had the same Alligator for about 4 years, I use it almost every day, sometimes multiple times a day, and it's holding up great. I will tell you - for the easiest operation, you need to cut larger onions into quarters instead of halves. Some people (like my sister) hate it, but I think they are being too gentle when operating it. In order to get the Alligator all the way through the onions, I have to whack it as hard as I can about 3-4 times (I am not especially large or strong), holding my hand or a cup over the grate so the onion won't fly everywhere. I can fully dice a whole onion in less than a minute!

Work SaverJan 09, 2007

"Never to Old"
It is a positive work saver in preparing firm vegetables for soups and stews, where a dice is needed or preferred; Whether called for in a recipe' or the personal preferrence of the cook!
It performs a much different function than a mandolin, and therefore is a worthy addition to any cooks tools.

A Dicer Couldn't Be NicerJan 13, 2009

I've had my alligator for two weeks now and the search is over. I was looking for the easy chopper or dicer and this is it. This thing is quick and slick. Quarter an onion, put a quarter on the base, lower the blade, and after it clicks you have a perfectly diced onion. I've used it for bell peppers too and it works great. I can now dice onions in seconds without a tear. The only con I have found is clean up even though it comes apart the blade section often retains onion skin even after a thorough hand washing. To me this is very minor. This product will reduce prep time with no tears. I would recommend it to all my friends.
