5Essential Kitchen Items: Amco BowlsFeb 06, 2001
By Michela
Amco is a commercial line of heavy duty stainless steel products that are used in restaurant and home kitchens. I have a set of less expensive stainless steel bowls, but I packed them away when I discovered the Amco bowls. I like the idea that I can purchase exactly the size bowls that I need for cooking and baking.

This Amco 4-Quart Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl is a convenient size. I recommend buying the 5-Quart and 6-Quart sizes too. (Recall that KitchenAid Stand Mixer Bowls are in 4.5-Quart and 5-Quart sizes.) The flat bottoms means that you can place them on a counter (on top of a damp flour sack kitchen towel would prevent any slippage). There are many times you will want to use one of these bowls instead of using your stand mixer. For example, chocolate brownie mixes usually recommend 50 stirs by hand.

Highly recommended! These bowls are dishwasher-safe, too.

5Great design... great price... great all aroundJun 17, 2003

This is a wonderful item. Before I had this one (and the same one in another size) I only had plastic bowls. This one is so much better on alot of levels.

First it is a wonderful, all around great size. Its substantial size makes it great for alot of mixing chores. Its easy to clean and maintain. And great for salads as it holds the temperature and the salads stay cold.

My old plastic bowls werent as study and had a tendancy to tip, didnt help with temerature reculation and were harder to clean (tomato would stain it , you couldnt use plastic as a make-shif double boiler, and it was hard to ever be sure any grease was off it, essential for whipping egg whites.

this is a great item. They arent bad for storage either as they nest. I wouldnt get any other bowls, at this point...

5Cool BowlJun 16, 2003

I never thought I'd gush about a mixing bowl, but this one is great. I bought it as part of a deal with the Whirley Pop popcorn popper and I love this bowl. This is a thicker and heavier stainless steel than all my other bowls. Because it is heavier, it is less prone to move or tip over. All mixing bowls are not created the same, and this one is clearly one of the best.

5Very solid medium-sized mixing bowlApr 27, 2008
By Mary Jo Sminkey "dog trainer and web programmer"
I have a set of 3 different size Amco mixing bowls and use all of them frequently. They nest together for easy storage and seldom a week goes by that I don't need to pull out at least one for some job in the kitchen. This is the middle-sized one of the three I have and works great for mixing up most box mixes, brownies, etc. All the Amco bowls are very solid, commercial grade and stainless steel, with a nice edge for gripping and a large flat surface on the bottom so they don't move around much when mixing in them. They really hold up well over time (I've had mine for 5 years now) and go through the dishwasher if need be without a problem.

5Great deal, nice bowl, sturdy constructionMar 24, 2005
By Senor Zoidbergo
While I wasn't willing to plunk down $80 for an overpriced All-Clad mixing bowl, I was looking for a stronger than usual, commercial-style mixing bowl, sturdier than what is typically sold at say, Target or Bed Bath & Beyond.

This mixing bowl is easy on the wallet, and is a strong little number as well. The steel is definitely quality, and fairly thick, and the bottom is also flat for a better grip on one's countertop. I also purchased the smaller 2-quart bowl as well, and the bottom of that is sheathed in an attractive blue rubber, that also enhances traction on countertops.

My only gripe is that now I need to buy the 6 quart as well, for larger jobs such as cake batter or salads. Really a nice set. But, I'd say save yourself some money and get the bowls individually, rather than the set of 3 bowls for $49.99 that Amazon is also offering.
