To begin with they are not stainless steel they are chrome plated pot metal. They function fine but are poorly made and I'm left to wonder whether they will break, or the chrome plating will peel off first. If you want something cheap and easy and don't plan on using them often they would be just fine.

I bought this kit primarily for the fork tools. The metal 'cracker' tools are not my favorite and I have bought some soft handled cracking tools at my local supermarket (Goodcook brand) that I like much better. The fork/ picking tools are excellent however. I think perhaps other places have these sort of tools ( maybe Crate and Barrel?) but I did not have the time to run around looking. I bought this kit for a 'steamed crab leg' party I hosted. The picking tools are well made and do a great job. The cracker tools are simply adequate bordering on not so great. But the fork/ picking tools are very nice. I disagree with a previous reviewer about the metal material: all tools are solid metal and are not painted in any way nor have they chipped or flaked on me with use. They are all solid metal tools-- I give 4 stars because the cracking tools are not fabulous and are not a spring-action hinge like a higher quality cracking tool has. But they do the job ok. As for the picking/fork tool: One side has the prongs for picking the shellfish meat and the other side is basically a narrow shovel to push the crab meat or shellfish meat out. I find them pleasant to hold and easy to use as well as easy to clean. I might actually buy another set as the party was a big hit, and I might need more tools.

This was a gift for my sister and it came in nice packaging, good quality. It was her first set and she was very pleased with it.
