Best jar openerNov 19, 2005
By L. Haislip I have owned many jar openers in my life and this is the one I would recommend for most people. The jar opener that is the easiest and most convenient to use is the one that is shaped like a V with serrated inner edges that you mount on the under side of your upper kitchen cabinets. It is convenient because you don't have to open a drawer for it and since it is mounted to the cabinet, you can use both hands to grip the jar. BUT, many people don't want to mar their kitchen cabinets by mounting that kind of opener. So, my current favorite is the Swing-A-Way #711 jar opener. Made by the folks who make high-quality hand can openers, this is a very simple to use device which doesn't take up much drawer space. It opens jars of all sizes easily.

Swing-A-Way Mfg. Jar OpenerFeb 17, 2006
By Justine Simone I cannot believe this product isn't in every store! It has been very hard to find, I have even travelled to other towns to try to find it to give friends who have WEAK HANDS OR ARTHRITIS! It will open any size from a small bottle top to a large pickle jar without effort! I would be lost without mine! Last summer, I found a supply in a small town in Indiana (at $4.95 each). I bought 1/2 dozen, gave them all out and need more, so had to come online! Buying 6 more now.

I have had this opener for 26 years. Yes, 26 years! Got it as a wedding gift back in 1980 and I'm still using it. I love it and use it almost every day. It has never failed me and even kids can use this one. I'm ordering 2 more for my daughters for Christmas for their own apartments. Great kitchen tool, everyone should have one!

Amco Swing-A-Way 711BK Comfort Grip Jar Opener, Black I bought this opener in New York more than 30 years ago ,while on a business trip from my home country of Trinidad and Tobago. My wife who has rather weak hands praises the elegance and effectiveness of its design every time she uses it. It has received constant use since then and although now covered with rust it has never failed us. I've been looking for it since we emigrated to the US 14 years ago and I am happy that I finally tracked it down. I recommend it so highly, that I have bought one for each of my female relatives. Great jar opener!Jan 02, 2008
By F. P. Berger I haven't found a jar yet that I can't get open with this thing. I've had one for years and I just bought two for my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. I started needing one when I had some arthritis pain in my hand and couldn't grip the tops of jars firmly enough to open them. This only requires you to squeeze the handle to get a good grip on any size jar.
The only downside is that sometimes there are dents left in the jar lid after opening it this way.
