Works better than a tootpickFeb 23, 2011
By Boardingace It's a little difficult to decide whether to buy a cake tester, when toothpicks also work well and are so cheap. Then again, so is the cake tester. Toothpicks are slightly wasteful. But then again, you have to wash this each time. So it's just a sort of funny and silly decision to try to make. However, I hope that my experiences with this not-so-important debate will be helpful to you :) Basically, the cake tester makes much smaller holes in your food. That's it. It is light-weight, easy to store, cheap (did I mention that?), and looks a bit flimsy but so far has withstood the bashing in my utensil jar against inevitably "tougher" guys. There is nothing wrong with a toothpick, but this cake tester will make a pin prick hold and the toothpick makes a bigger hole. That's about all I have to say about this :) Your turn to decide...

Ateco Cake TesterFeb 17, 2010
By Johny A. Harper This product is just the right tool for the job. I have always used a cake tester like this one. I misplaced the one I had and could not find one locally. I saw this one on Amazon and ordered it. Works well.

Does what it should.Jun 06, 2010
By Dreaming.. Small and functional, I've no idea what else a cake tester should offer, but this one does the work for me. Recommended.

It takes the CakeApr 06, 2011
By Antigone Walsh In the middle of a cupcake baking marathon, all my cake testers (really just long, skinny, metal skewers) disappeared to a parallel universe. Once ubiquitous in Dollar stores and other discount places, there was not a single one to be found. After doing the toothpick thing, I decided to purchae this item. I am very glad I did. It has a cheery bright blue handle atop a metal skewer. Works like a dream (not that it is even the slightest bit challenging or complex). It is long enough to be useful even with deeper baked goods and the metal skewer slides through dense batters with ease. Also, it is made in the USA, an added plus. While probably not a kitchen essential, it is definitely a welcome addition to any baker's set of tools.

"great gran"
I have always used cake testers and had misplaced mine when I found this one online. Thank you for your promptness in sending it. These are a lot better than using a "tooth pick."
