It's been perfect for meNov 21, 2006

I bought the grinder about a month ago to take advantage of the wonderful beans from local company, Stumptown Coffee. I use the grinder every day, either for the coffeemaker or the French press and both settings give me a terrific grind. I have had none of the problems others describe: lid on the hopper is a perfect fit; it grinds all my coffee evenly and thoroughly; settings for a coarse grind (8-9) or for a finer grind (4-5) work perfectly well.
I don't understand the comment about not having a manual shut-off. The same button that turns it on turns it off.

Excellent quality grinds!Dec 06, 2006
By B. Hamrick I bought this grinder from my local coffee house on the recommendation of several of the employees at the shop. I've had it for almost 6 months and I couldn't be happier. I have used several other burr grinders, all of which have produced far more coffee dust than I would like. I use a press pot, so I use fairly coarse grinds, and the consistency of the grinds from this machine are perfect. I haven't had any problems with the grinder not functioning. The same button that turns it on turns it right back off. I honestly don't care how loud it is, as I would expect a coffee grinder to be loud. It is not difficult to clean at all. I just use the included bristle cleaner and a moist paper towel, it only takes a couple of minutes.

Shame on you CapressoJan 27, 2008
By J. Martin Dear fellow consumers, please don't be fooled. Conical burr grinders are high performing grinders for true coffee connoisseurs. A burr grinder that is not conical, technically a burr wheel grinder, is an overpriced fake that performs marginally and CLOGS every few grinds! My favorite part is the nice tan I get from the coffee dust from cleaning this thing with compressed air for 50 minutes!

Worse than a blade grinderSep 03, 2007
By James Martin Yeah, it's a bit quieter than most burr grinders, but like other users I'm using it at its "finest" grind, and the pieces are random in size, ranging up to an enormous 1/4". If you looked at the ragged output you wouldn't think of this as a burr grinder. I've cleaned it out and it makes no difference. Avoid unless you need a course grind.

Excellent coffee!Nov 23, 2007
By Michelle Benjamin A Chicagoan, I also love Portland's Stumptown coffees and finally found the perfect way to grind and enjoy the perfect bean. It took me one minute to set this unit up, and it hasn't let me down once. The aroma that comes out when I grind the beans makes coffee brewing all the more enjoyable. Since I purchased my own a few months back, I have bought a couple more units for coffee-lovers that I know. Totally worth the buy!
