Description:

Dispenser pack of (100) Chemex FS-100 Bonded Filter Squares. These filters will work and are designed for all sizes and styles of Chemex Coffee Brewers except the small Chemex CM-1C & CM-1 models (pint size models) 1-3 Cup Coffee Makers. Chemex filters remove even the finest sediment particles as well as the undesirable oils and fats. The formulation of the filter permits the proper infusion time by regulating the filtration rate - not to slow, not too fast. Good infusion of the coffee grounds (as in brewing and steeping tea) gives coffee a richer flavor while at the same time making possible precise fractional extraction: filtering out the undesirable components which make coffee bitter by allowing only the desirable flavor elements of the coffee bean to pass through. The Chemex filter is folded into a cone shape, exactly as in laboratory techniques. This assures uniform extraction since the water filters through all the grounds on its way to the apex of the cone. The Chemex filter is guaranteed not to burst under the weight of the liquid during filtration, and not to break when lifting out the grounds. Fully-bodied, richer flavor, from less coffee, and as strong as you like without bitterness - that's what the Chemex filter gives you.

5Go with these filters, do not get the unbleached (brown) onesMar 04, 2011
By J. Gardner
If you have a Chemex coffee maker these are the filters to use. The bleached (white) filters are great.

DO NOT opt for the unbleached (brown) filters as they impart a VERY strong and unpleasant taste and smell of paper. Go with the bleached ones unless you like your coffee to taste like the paper towels you would find in a gas station bathroom (I'm serious, that's exactly what your coffee will taste like if you use the unbleached filters.)

5Coffee Filters that work!Nov 27, 2010
By M. Dorin
I use these filters for my Chemex Coffee system. They are able to hold enough water and grinds at one time for about 4 persons and brew coffee in about 5 minutes from beginning to end. They do not shred and are easy to lift out of the conical top portion of the coffee maker without burning fingers. They fit perfectly into the coffee maker without the need for extra folding or trimming. My only problem is that I cannot find them at local coffee shops, so I can only purchase online. Not a problem, but that requires some planning ahead so as not to run out while waiting for delivery. Price is about right and these are about the best for brewing I can find, so they are my first choice for the present.

4Do what they're supposed toMar 27, 2011
By Bjorn Watsjold "akbjorn"
I've been using my chemex 10-cup for about 4 months, and I'm on my second box of these--I tried, actually, to find a different variety that would fit the 10-cup size, as coffee forums have been discussing folded/unfolded, bleached/unbleached. I can't compare these to any others but here are the things I've noticed so far:
1. They are, as advertised, much thicker than normal coffee filters. They hold up well to a hot-water rinse (recommended) and tend to maintain shape.
2. It is difficult to impossible to get a "perfect" fit by opening a square to fit in a cone, but I'm not sure this affects the ultimate direction of filtration of water through coffee through filter.
3. I don't notice any papery or chemically taste to the coffee, but I've never used them without rinsing, and I've never tasted the rinsewater (both discussed frequently on coffee forums).
An aside: the chemex will reveal dramatically the difference in quality of beans. It will not make the pound of beans you bought at DD taste like a pound from a specialty shop. If you're not that discerning, or you have a type of coffee you regularly buy, it will make the best cup of that coffee you can get. I switched from a bodum french press, and the coffee took some getting used to. Many of the flavorful oils will get filtered out, and a different profile will come through in a pour-over cup. I can only describe it as "cleaner," as switching back to the french press (with top quality beans, even) produced a coffee that now tastes muddy and murky to me, and those flavorful oils now seem harsh. Once you've made the switch, you really won't want to go back.

4It pays to use the right filterApr 14, 2011
By PT Cruiser "PT Cruiser"
I purchased my first Chemex Coffeemaker CHEMEX 10 Cup Classic Series Coffee Maker about 8 months ago. My first filters were round, cone shaped ones that I bought at the grocery store. The water seemed to take forever to drip through them. Then I bought another cone shaped brand which was even worse since the bottom broke and I had grounds in my coffee. So I finally ordered these filters that are made especially for the Chemex. I got the unbleached ones first, but this time these white ones were less expensive so I ordered them. I don't notice any difference in the performance or taste of the coffee between the two.

Both work well with their larger size. They're square and you fold over one section to make them fit in the top of the coffeemaker. With the 10 cup Chemex it's easier to lift them out than with the generic round type because you have something to grab hold of beyond the top. The coffee also moves through them at a respectable speed so I don't have to stand there all day waiting for my coffee. The only thing I can complain about it the price which seems a little steep for filters. But they're the best I've found for my coffeemaker so far.
