3Not so great for temperingAug 23, 2005
By E. Ng
Unlike what another reviewer said, this chocolate melter isn't so good for tempering. I tried tempering chocolate twice with it and while most of it was melted and correctly tempered (you can tell by the gloss and the smoothness), there were some chocolate chips that weren't completely melted. As a result, some of the chocolate turned out okay after putting them in the moulds and cooling them until hard, but some didn't. The ones that didn't had the "bloom" on them the next day (the white fuzzy stuff). I stirred the chocolate constantly. I think it is because the cup has a flat bottom and you end up only successfully tempering the chocolate in the middle and at the top, not the chocolate at the bottom near the sides. Baking experts recommend using a minimum of 1 to 1-1/2 pounds of chocolate for tempering, any less will be apt to burn. The maximum the chocolate melter cup can hold is 1 pound. They also recommend using the microwave method or a double-boiler.

I'm not saying this is a bad product. If you just want to use this for making chocolate to dip things in (which is its main purpose) and you don't need to temper the chocolate, it's fine. If you want to use it for tempering chocolate, be careful (and use only low heat setting). There are better things to use for tempering.

2Not good for proper temperingOct 07, 2005
By Julie
I bought this for chocolate as I have tempered chocolate before using a double boiler and this seemed easier. When melting it says it will melt up to a pound of chocolate but you are only supposed to fill the bowl to a certain line and when it melts you have about a third of a bowl of chocolate not a full bowl as picture shows. It formed tiny lumps before it melted and after it cooled to 85 I poured into molds. It never set fully, most stuck in the molds and others went crumbley. Instructions have you melt and cool to 85 only, nothing about cooling and then reheating to 85 as it says on this site. I also melted some yogurt coating which worked fine other than the fact you could only fill to a certain line although you could keep adding as it melted. Good for kids maybe or just for coatings but not to temper real chocolate.

5CHOCOLATE MELTERJan 21, 2004
By Rud
I have been looking for a method to melt my chocolate for years. This handy kitchen appliance was so easy to use in keeping my chocolate from burning. In the past I used the microwave which would scorch the chocolate and ruin it for dipping chocolate.

I would certainly recommend this product if you are into a simple method of melting chocolate.

5Great Chocolate ProductJan 12, 2004
By Marie
I bought this chocolate melter from the website (chocolatemelter.com). We used the deluxe chocolate melter to melt chocolate for Christmas and give treats to our neighbors. It worked very well. My kids had a lot of fun too. I have always hated doing chocoalte in the microwave or double boiler becuase of the hassel and I would offen burn it and then the whole thing would be ruined. This product made the melting part a breeze. I would suggest it to anyone who is new at at chocolate melting or even those who have been at it for some time. 5 Stars!

By chocoholic444
I saw this product at the Housewares Show in Chicago last March. I bought two of them on www.chocolatemelter.com and I use them for dipping stawberries and bananas. I love to do the fondue thing. Dark Chocolate is the best in this cute little machine!!!
