4Very flexible nutritional scaleAug 13, 2008
By Margaret P. "mhp2027"
This nutritional scale is a very easy way to measure carbohydrates (for diabetics) and other nutrition information from a wide variety of foods. The scale "zeros" out a plate (or other food), then you weigh the food, enter a code associated with that food, select the nutritional information desired, and read off the results. The booklet is very sturdy and wipes clean. Foods are sorted alphabetically, which makes them very easy to find. The booklet includes 999 foods, including both individual ingredients (e.g., milk, raw apple, white bread) and prepared foods (e.g., blueberry muffins, french fries, pizza). This is very useful when eating at a restaurant, eating prepared foods with no nutritional lables, and when you're in a hurry. Most foods we wanted were either listed or a similar food was listed. I compared the scale's estimates with those from a booklet and package nutrition, and found these estimates quite accurate. The scale is very easy to carry with you in a bag: about 2" tall and 9" diameter.

We bought this scale about a year and three months ago. It worked very well for about a year. Then, the nutrition and weight readings started degrading. These values are now very inaccurate, to the point of being useless. Low bateries does the same thing, and is not obvious (i.e., the display does not indicate low batteries). Mind you, we used this scale every day, and took it with us to numerous locations, and probably dropped it; so our scale got heavy use for one year before breaking.

The competing digital nutrition scale I've examined list only raw ingredients for their 999 codes, which is only useful when cooking from scratch at home. While I wish my Escali scale lasted longer, I was satisfied enough with its performance to buy a replacement.

3No Custom FoodsOct 09, 2008
By Tigs
This seems like an overall good scale but as far as I can see, it doesn't allow for inputing custom foods. Most others allow 99 foods to be memorized. I checked out the online manual and the manufactuer website and didn't see this feature listed. If I am wrong please let me know because this is the only reason I did not go with this scale.

4Scale reviewFeb 10, 2010
By Cathy Buschmeier
I bought this product for my boyfreind who is a body builder. He measures everything he eats and keeps track of it daily. I like that this scale is easliy cleaned and it comes with very very many codes for different foods, even fast food. However, for us the ony thing we would have hoped for is that it tracked what you ate the whole day or remembered the information you put into it. The layout is another thing I think he would have preferred differently, instead of just pushing the cal button and the number pops up, i think he would have liked the information to show all at once on a nutrition table like the regular food packaging. But all in all, i like this scale and we use it everyday.

5Weigh your portions and lose weightOct 20, 2008
By J. Abbott "Zoomer"
My wife decided that she wanted to lose weight for our son's wedding. Her doctor's program including weighing portions to better calculate calories. This was the unit that her doctor recommended, and Amazon provided the pricing that I preferred. The weight came off and this scale now has a permanent spot on our kitchen counter. Being an engineer, I especially like the way that this scale quickly weighs the plate or food container that you plan to use, then weighs the food.
