By Amazonian These tongs work great when you have cooked escargot in shells. They allow you to hold the shell and retrieve the snail quite easily, without getting your hands greasy. If you are amongst snobs, they will be impressed with the expensive look and feel of these tongs. An excellent purchase that we will enjoy for years!

Just Give me a Shell Full of Succulent Snail !!Feb 18, 2011

Now all I need is a shell to grab on to !! Not much to say about these tongs, They were shipped fairly promptly, and are what I expected them to be. Just enough resistance that they will open easily, but not too easily, and grasp the shell firmly. They are the perfect accompaniment to some Roland escargot....yum!

It works, not a rocket science product.Sep 14, 2011
By Nilo S. Bortolotti This is a low tech device, right, just a SS tong that you use to hold your Escargots shells as you eat the snails, so can't expect much. The only weird think about it is that the natural instinct of someone using it to squeeze it more to get more grip on the shell. Squeezing actually open the tong, so it takes a while to get usual to it. A little more pressure on the spring would be better, in my view, to hold the shells more firmly.

Won't handle larger snail shells well - can be easily fixedJul 12, 2011
By Bill R. Roberts For such a well made and tensioned instrument I'm surprised it wasn't done just perfect. Holds snail shells well and has a beautiful finish. Right size and weight, but won't open wide enough for large shells. There was no way I was going to return them since it appears all the dealers are selling the identical item and with a little grinding and polishing with my Dremel Motor Tool, everything worked perfectly. Suppose large isn't the same with all French snail shells. If I hadn't had the tools, I'd have tried a jeweler to do the work and toldhim to do the work in his spare tme. Stainless steel is hard to work with. Even with out modifications it was a good buy, but could have been better.
