Good for eggs, not mushroomsJun 01, 2010
By Ian Stewart I had one of these for a few years and it's always worked well on eggs. Recently, my girlfriend realized that we could also use it to slice mushrooms, thus taking a few minutes out of dinner prep time. I gave that a shot and found it rather difficult to get through a pretty average cremini mushroom, but still better than what we were doing before... until, a few mushrooms later, one of the wires snapped. If you only want to cut eggs, this should do just fine for you, but don't try to use it on anything harder!

Almost a home runJul 02, 2006
By Laura Angell Wedgey certainly is cute. However, keep in mind to only use this on eggs or other very soft food items. It is a little hard to line the wires up appropriately. For the price, this is a good piece of equipment and a whimsical addition to any kitchen.

Such a cute kitchen gadget!Oct 28, 2005
By Luvthesun I have to admit from the beginning that I am a sucker for cute kitchen items. Wedgey definitely fits into that category, although it works great as an egg slicer as well. It makes a nice gift, too!

Cute but poor performer.May 01, 2010
By Nancy B. I've only owned this for a few months and one of the wire cutters is already broken. And because of the way it is designed (one continuous loop of wire), all of the other wires have lost tension. Now when I slice an egg, the wires don't always line up with their slots. This is compounded by the fact that there is a lot of play in the hinge.
I used to think this was cute but now it's super annoying to use and I feel mocked by it's stupid little face.
Sure I may have abused it by slicing mushrooms, but I expect an egg slicer to be able to handle that.
Today I bought a Westmark egg slicer. It's cast aluminum body feels sturdier and it is definitely better designed (made in Germany). Each wire cutter is it's own individual wire that relies on a metal connection (not plastic) to stay tensioned and seated. Also there is very little slop in the hinge. It may have cost fives times more, but I think it will prove to be worth it.
3 stars for Function-FIVE for cutenessApr 14, 2012
By PARADOC_PAULIE I bought the EggMan egg slicer after an unfortunate mishap, wherein I actually thought I could SLICE strawberries with it..I wouldn't recommend it. The item arrived before the end-date and is the EGGxact replacement fort the one I "disabled",..OK, broke. The thin metal wire inside is ONE piece threaded up-and-down around the pegs inside(you have to look inside)This design is NOT the best-but will suffice to slice through egs as indicated. Overall, I presume that most folks buy this more for the look than the function. Personally speaking as a Man, silly me to think a utilitarian egg-man slicer-would be made as well as, say an all metal slicer.HEAVY duty it's not..Useful, it is. The metal strings that slice are a bit weak. Once again, it seems to work fine for eggs, just don;t get any wild ideas about strawberries, though..
