Complete Waste of Time and Money - Avoid the GimmickMay 26, 2009
By John Paul L. Finan I thought this was a great idea, until I used it. What a waste of time! A regular measuring spoon is faster to use 99% of the time, much faster to clean 100% of the time, and much, much less costly. This adjustable spoon is awkwardly shaped, making spices, salt, baking powder and whatnot tricky to measure quickly. You have to scoop up the ingredients and then carefully set your knife on top of the scoop in front of the sliding thing and then even the surface that way. With a real spoon, you just wipe it off against the box/canister top (baking soda/powder) or swipe a butter knife over the top to level it off. Then dumping the ingredients is even a hassle. The adjustable slide thing can't be used for pushing out product since it doesn't go the length of the scoop, always leaving a little bit at the end that you have to swipe out with your finger anyway. Adjustable is fine, but you'll have to clean this dumb thing out between wet ingredients and it's a hassle every time. The top piece has to be popped off and the two pieces both have narrow angles that make cleaning hard. Adjusting it even a hassle - you have to click it in place and then hold the top bit down against the metal so that it forms a tight rubber seal. The spoon also tarnished after a single dishwasher cycle (using Cascade powder, btw). It's not acceptable for this annoying thing to have to be hand washed every time, and I know it's not hard to design something made of metal that doesn't tarnish in the dishwasher. Overall, I wouldn't use this thing it were free. The concept is OK, the design is poor, the quality is questionable, and the price is ridiculous.

Works well but becomes quite tarnished after regular washingMay 21, 2009
By Chicago Book Addict Overall this is a great product. I enjoy having a single spoon that can measure between 1/2 teaspoon and a tablespoon because it takes up much less drawer space. Because if this it is perfect for someone like me who adores cooking but has a small kitchen.
There are only a couple of drawbacks to the product. The first is that if you wash it in the dishwasher it becomes quite tarnished over time. I typically use Cascade Gel Packs and this is one of the few products I have noticed that this has happened to. I regularly also wash my all clad pots and pans and several other items in the dishwasher and this is the only product it has happened to. It is still very much useable but is pretty unsightly looking and also has acquired a rough texture.
It's also not necessarily more convenient than having separate measuring spoons because there is a lot of washing involved. If I am making something like a dessert where I know I will be measuring out a lot of small amounts of liquid ingredients I often opt to use my regular measuring spoons because if I am switching back and forth between liquid, semi-solid and powdered ingredients this can get pretty gunky. Still, I find it pretty convenient overall, especially if I am only working with dry ingredients.
Overall, this is a pretty good product. It doesn't hold up as well in the dishwasher as I would have hoped and can require a bit of washing while in use, but overall it's a great space saver for small kitchens.

space-saving productMay 31, 2008

I love these! they are perfect for small measures (spices, etc), but I have not tried them with liquids. And best of all, no more keeping rings of measuring spoons (or loose ones) in the drawer. Just remove the slider before putting both pieces in the dishwasher.

Good kitchen gadgetJan 11, 2011

Good gadget to have. I like the solid metal spoon, very durable. One thing I don't like, it's next to impossible to slide to adjust measurement. I have to take the adjustable piece off and snap back on to the desired notch. I also have the teaspoon size. These are definitely getting plenty of use in my kitchen.
I've owned one for 10 yearsDec 11, 2011

I've owned one of these for 10 years and I cook every meal at home. I've used this to measure oil, sugar, milk, flour, etc. . . It's great. Save a bunch of room because you won't need to have a bunch of spoons in your drawer. I've always put it in the dish washer and it did tarnish after a short time but it always worked great. Finally after about 10 years the rubber fell apart. I am debating on weather I should get it again. A simpler spoon will last longer but I already have some simple ones and can never find the right size I need. A simpler one can be hand washed quickly, this one is cumbersome. Not much more to write about it is a tablespoon.
