These locking tongs are of superb quality (well designed, heavy-gauge steel, solidly made and ergonomic locking mechanism, strong business end, smoothly finished). They're easy and comfortable to handle and open & lock. They're strong enough to use as a spatula as well as flipper and whisk. The smoothly rounded ends are easy on cookware, and can even be used gently on nonstick cookware. You will find these a joy to use.

These tongs work well on almost anything that needs flipping or turning, and they would rate 5 stars if they had a coating or were made from something that wouldn't scratch non-stick pans. They need to be used carefully so they don't scratch the non-stick surface. On regular pans they work flawlessly. Strong enough for pieces of meat, and gentle enough for more delicate morsels. I especially like the way they lock closed when not in use, so they never tangle with other utensils in the drawer. I also have the longer version which is the perfect 5-star barbecue tool.

I saw a similar item on an info commercial and bought it at a local store. It was garbage. Bought the real deal, this one, and have been using it for at least 2 years and it is the most used item in the kitchen. I recently purchased another because my first one is always in the wash.

This tool is great, it's made well and is very sturdy. I know I'll get years of use out of it. I also have the larger one. I use it on the grill for the extra reach to stay away from the heat. This one is used in the kitchen for everything.

For people who use a small counter oven for toast or small items like burgers, chicken, or fish, this is great to turn or remove them without risk of burning fingers trying to maneuver around a small oven cavity or door. I've had this about a month and use it often. Cooks Illustrated some time ago reviewed this among other tongs and spatulas, finding it had limited use, but I find it very worthwhile to turn food in skillets as well as my small oven, though it will mess up a cheeseburger and not lift larger items, as CI noted. I haven't used it as a whisk but unexpectedly, it is the best tool I've ever used to toss and serve salad, as no greens spill out of the bowl in the process.
