 It does peel tomatoes but...Sep 17, 2011

It does peel (firm) tomatoes, fleshy sweet peppers and also cucumbers without removing the nice green film under their skin. I've tried it on peaches recently with good results.
The handle is comfortable, has a good grip without that "sticky" feeling some other peelers have, and the vertical blade is safer than y-peelers for round smallish produce.
I've found, however, that using this peeler for both fruits and vegetables is not a good idea because, after some use, it will dull slightly yet enough to make a difference when it comes to peeling tomatoes and other thin-skinned fruits.
Consider ordering two of these peelers and use one exclusively for thin-skinned produce.

There is nothing to dislike about this peeler.
SAFETY
Kuhn Rikon had safety in mind when they used this silicone(-like) material to envelope the handle, which makes for a non-slippery grip. It's very comfortable to hold as well.
DESIGN
The design is very pretty with the bright color option (yellow or red); I don't have to look closely in my drawer to find it. No more looking among a drawer full of metal-finished utensils.
FINALLY, PERFORMANCE
I haven't tested Kuhn Rikon's claim on the packaging that it can peel a tomato, but for everything else, it works for me. It starts peeling right where you "nail" it on the vegetable/fruit with its serrated cutting edge. No more running down a root vegetable with several attempts before any of its skin is grabbed for stripping. Love it!

My husband loves this peeler, and says that it peels better than any he has used. The real test was tomatoes, and it peeled only skin(he's alot better at peeling tomatoes than I am). The grip is really good; even if you get juices from tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. on your hands, you can still grip it with ease.

Every once in a while someone gets a product right. This one is it. Solid feel, quality design, and strong sharp blade make this one a winner. I am purchasing another 2 as gifts I'm so happy with it.
