More than a pot, it's a LIFESAVER for the working woman!Jan 20, 2012
By larkspur I'm not a natural cook and, I'm ashamed to say, for most of my adult life I've depended on restaurants, ready-meals and junk food. Well, I'm older now, I won't say wiser, but I'm finally changing some of my ways. I still don't have the energy or time when I stagger home from work to cook a balanced meal, but I do eat my own home cooking almost every night. This summer I bought my first Dutch/French oven, followed by another, followed by the Buffet Casseroles (HIGHLY recommended!) and finally, a whole lot of pyrex. These vessels really inspire me to cook, partly because they are so attractive and easy to clean, and partly because I'm always satisfied with the results. They really make me wonder why I ever thought I couldn't cook. I generally spend Sunday afternoon cooking and freeze part of that. Through a little juggling I can eat the same meal for the early part of the week (microwaved - so much faster and easier than restaurants) and then rely on the freezer for variety later in the week. I almost never waste food now because these beautiful pots inspire me to use them. I actually seek out veg, etc at the end of the week to make up a nice soup. Delicious - I'd never made soup before and yet it's so easy, satisfying and healthy. It's home economics really. For someone who ate so BADLY and EXPENSIVELY before, I don't begrudge the price of these pots one bit. I'm eating better both in terms of health and satisfaction than I ever have before and I'm quite proud of myself. If you need to overhaul your way of eating for whatever reason, I really recommend one of these pots, the buffet casseroles (very versatile) and a wide selection of pyrex. I don't know how expensively you are eating right now, but it's very possible that you'll be eating better and more economically as a result within a short amount of time.
Great French (Dutch) OvenMar 15, 2012
By ChemSci I love this oven. I use it on a regular basis & it still looks great (so far no need for a special cleaner). I think it a good size for preparing dinner for a family of three.
