5My favorite potSep 11, 2008
By W. Timm
Even though this blue beauty clashes somewhat with all my black appliances, it's usually sitting on top of the range, even when it's not in use. I use it for almost everything. The great thing about an enameled oven like this is that you can prepare just about everything for a dish in it, from browning the meat to slow simmer or baking in the oven.

It's weight may be intimidating to some (as well as the cost), but that's what cast iron is all about, after all.

Besides being easy to use on the stove and in the oven, cleaning it is an absolute dream. That's probably the biggest difference between these and my beloved Lodge cast iron cookware. These require zero maintenance. As with any cast iron cookware, they are NOT indestructible. The enamel will chip if you abuse it. Even Lodge recommends not dropping their stuff.

Bottom line, if you can afford it, you should get at least one of these. I own three different sizes (3 1/2 qt, 5 1/2 qt, and this 7 1/4 qt) but I usually find myself reaching for this big one.

5You'll never need another potDec 09, 2010

This is, hands down, the absolute best piece of kitchen equipment in the world. I use this pot more than any other. I've had it for two years now and there isn't a single scratch or mark on the thing. Nothing ever sticks to this pot, including that black grime that tends to form on the bottom (the part in contact with the stove) of all other pots. This holds heat spectacularly well and is so even. You can use this on absolutely the worst cooking surface and everything will still cook evenly. If you're wary about the price, don't be. You will have this pot forever. My mom has one that she's had over 25 years and it still looks and acts almost brand new. She inherited one from her great-aunt that's much older and it's STILL in great shape. It's safe to put this pot in the oven as well. You can burn the nastiest crud to the bottom of this and it will still come out perfectly clean with barely more than a wipe. That said, you will rarely be in a situation where something will cook badly in this pot. Like I said, it heats very evenly, is perfectly non-stick, and just generally holds heat like a small oven. If you splurge on one thing in your kitchen, don't buy a new stove, buy this pot. You won't regret it. You will use it almost every time you cook. Even though the size it good, I rarely cook for more than two people and the size is still perfect. It fits a good sized steamer in it (use a silicone one to maintain your oven), it is great for large stews and soups, it's great for everything. It's even pretty enough to stay out on your stovetop for "storage" instead of hiding in a cabinet. I can't say enough good things about this.

5More Blue Heaven (Cobalt of course)May 31, 2007

My main concern with this Le Creuset 7 1/4 qt Round French Oven purchase, was that it be significantly larger than the Le Creuset 4 1/4 Qt Soup Pot which I am using as a smaller French Oven among other things. It IS indeed, and I don't have any qualms about it not handling my occasional needs for a large pot that does everything, but still at a very manageable weight, and fits the sink for washing up OK. I can even hold the pot with one hand and the towel in the other..
I really like the gorgeous Cobalt Blue, if you have a Culinaria France book, it's darker than the matt blue cover, and a glossy finish. I'm also glad I stuck with round pots, I think they are stronger, provide more even heating, and also a better fit on the stove top.
I've found that most of the size/weight information listed for Le Creuset products is inaccurate and that reviewers provide a more accurate picture. The 7 1/4 qt French Oven has 5 3/4 inches headroom inside, 1 inch more than the Soup Pot. The inside rim diameter is 11 inches, an additional 1/2 inch. But the bulk of the inside volume difference, French Oven 8 1/4 qt versus Soup Pot 5 qt (pot and lid combined interior volume) is due to the shape difference. The flat base of the French oven is 8 3/4 inches diameter or 3 1/4 inches larger.
By the way I returned my Le Creuset 3 1/2 qt Casserole after I found a chip in the inside lid enamel, and Amazon paid the USPS shipping/insurance and ordered a replacement. The casserole was in a crude looking Le Creuset white cardboard box, not the usual glossy orange box, but I was assured by Le Creuset that it is a package difference only.
If you return something to Amazon don't click on the "UPS pick up" box, it's impractical unless you are at home all day for a 3 business day period.
I'm very pleased with the Le Creuset pots, and also the Amazon customer service, and can now focus on cooking.

P.S. I know these pots are expensive and a small collection can easily cost as much as a desktop PC. At least Le Creuset pots don't need software updates and antivirus software, and they are not going to be obsolete in 5 years.

5Excellent purchaseSep 04, 2011
By Anthony.....
This was purchased by my partner who loves to cook. His words? "This is the best thing I have ever purchased!" He has prepared a few items so far and all have been great. From Julia Child's Boeuf Bourguignon to Coq Au Vin, the dishes have cooked perfectly and they taste amazing. Best of all, it comes clean so easily! AMAZING. Worth every penny. I think that it should coem with the stainless handle to make it able to handle temperatures of over 400 degrees, but another $10.00 for the stainless handle is totally worth it. If you are debating between this and another based on price alone, then others will be cheaper, but this does have a lifetime warranty and it will outlast those others costing less. Just my opinion!

5Simply the bestApr 20, 2011

Have had several pieces for 15+ years and they all look new. Food cooks evenly and this size in particular is great for dinner for 2 plus 2 nights of leftovers. If you take care of Le Creuset cookware, you will be able to pass them down in your will.
