Great SlicerOct 12, 2010
By David W. Leonard This works pretty good, I'm still trying to get the hang of it. But I like it better then a knife cause it does more then a knife, it cuts the melon in half & it scoops out the seeds then it gets the melon out of shell so thats 3 tools you don't have to dig around for & you only have the half of the shell left to get rid of not a bunch of empty slices. It's a very good little tool to have on hand.

I think it works pretty darn good!Sep 25, 2010
By Apri I bought one of these and have used it on cantaloupes. It's easy to cut the melon in half, scoop out the seeds, and cut up the fruit. I find I can cut up a whole melon in a couple of minutes. My only complaint is that it is a little messy, but it's so much faster, it makes up for it.

Safest Way to Eat MelonsOct 04, 2011
By Charles G.

I eat a couple of cantaloupes a week in the late summer. But cantaloupes can pick up all sorts of bad things including listeria when growing on the ground and it's tough to wash them all off of that netted rind. Each time you cut through the rind, you risk transferring with the knife the bacteria on the rind into the flesh.
So enter this little device.
Now you only have to make a single cut through the rind instead of 8 cuts through the rind, reducing the chance that any bacteria makes it in, but also reducing the amount of the bacteria if it does. You cut the fruit in half, and then use this device to scoop out the flesh without additional cuts made through the rind. A melon baller would work just as well, but this is much faster.
I found it simple to use, and not messy in the least. Just shove it in and it does the rest. Pull it out, move over and shove it in again.
To more safely eat melons:
-Store the melon in the fridge for a few hours before cutting to make it cold. -wash your hands under running water. -scrub the melon with a brush under running water (no soap or cleanser, just water) on a cutting board in the sink. -dry the melon with a paper towel. -place the melon stem side down on a different cutting board than the one you used to wash it. The stem is the little green circle at one end of the melon. -Pour a little bit of drinking alcohol, not rubbing alcohol, over the melon where you are about to cut it and rub with a paper towel along the line you will use to cut. The alcohol should be the most potent stuff you have. -Cut the melon straight down once on one side. -Wash the knife. -Cut the melon straight down on the other side. -Wash the knife and set it aside. -Scoop out the seeds with this device. -Cut the melon with this device as I described above. -Refrigerate any leftovers. Three hours out of the fridge or more and you should throw it away.
This doesn't really take that much time. The alcohol is probably over the top.

By ted hoss The product does not do what I hoped it would. It literally doesn't peel or slice well. I would not recommend it. Vacu Vin Melon Slicer
