Not perfect, but not badFeb 20, 2007
By dhaukap Like all Microplane graters, this thing is astonishingly sharp and I shred with care whenever I use it. I haven't bloodied the thing yet but I know it's just a matter of time. The design and shape pretty much require it be cleaned in the dishwasher, there's no easy way to clean it by hand. The sliding finger protector works, but it's not great. It's finicky to install and it requires 2 hands to remove. It does serve its purpose when you get down to, say, a small remaining piece of carrot - and you really don't want to take chances barehanding small pieces. Have I mentioned the grater is devilishly sharp? Biggest flaw: the grating surface is too small, given the overall height of the unit. By small I mean short, you have to make many short strokes across the grater as opposed to fewer longer ones to get the job done. In the end, I like it because its sharpness is better than any other grater I've seen, but ergonomically it's a little flawed. Frighteningly sharp, if I haven't mentioned that....

Somewhat of a dissappointmentNov 28, 2005
By WJM I know that microplane has an excellent reputation, so was excited when I saw the box grater. However, it does not live up to my expectations. It is large and somewhat awkward. The slider attachment is difficult to use and practically useless. Also, it is difficult to clean. It is not worth the price....buy one of the hand held graters instead.
