This one will make your life easier.Apr 22, 2009
By Wood Wren
"Wren"
I do a lot of baking; a lot of different types of baking and therefore need good equipment that is not going to break my piggy bank. I have owned several dough blenders (still have them in the baking section of my kitchen) but found this Oxo brand to be the best of the litter. It fits my hand perfectly and for those of you who do a lot of work with these utensils know, this is very important. Nothing like a good hand cramp to set your day off just right. I suspect that this company has put in quite a lot of research as to the workings of the human hand and they pretty well have it nailed with this product.
The blades of this one (five) are quite stout and do not bend and flex as most do. I hate flimsy utensils, so this one was a real pleasure when I started using it. As to the sturdiness, this one if far superior to the Wilton, Pampered Chief or Anco...there is just no comparison. Trust me, I have used them all.
There are some considerations though. As pointed out by one reviewer, this mixer is not compatible with smaller bowls. I use rather large and heavy mixing bowls so do not have that problem myself, but I can see were some might have. Secondly, cleaning by hand is a chore. I have found the best way to clean this thing up is to soak it for a bit and then simply throw it in the dishwasher. I usually like to hand wash all my equipment, but in this case I go for the washer. The other way I have used is the simple use of a longer bristled kitchen brush.
As an added tip, this is a good tool to make thin butter patties with and to slice eggs for salads..a very nice even cut.
If you do a large amount of "scratch" baking, then this one is going to make life a lot easier for you.

Works perfectlyNov 12, 2007
By Stu This product works exactly as advertised. After using knives/forks to cut in butter, I finally got frustrated and bought this -- what a difference. It cuts my work time in half and does a much better job than how I used to do it. Highly recommended!

good valueNov 29, 2007
By Stephen F. Brown Good product for a basic pastry cutter.Blades are fairly stiff and distort very little with use.Grip is very comfortable for my small hands and grips well. Not large so if you do large batches you will get a workout. Why are blades always so not sharp on these cutters? All together a solid performing tool.

STURDYApr 26, 2008
By Ellen G. I'VE OWNED ONE OF THESE FOR YEARS AND AM BUYING THIS ONE AS A GIFT FOR A NEWLY ENGAGED FRIEND. IT'S STURDY AND HANDY. I ONLY BOUGHT MINE AFTER TRYING SEVERAL OTHER BRANDS, AND IT'S THE BEST I'VE EVER USED.

sturdier than the wire versionNov 01, 2008
By Sarah Hays This dough blender works really well with my all-butter crusts -- where my wire blender will bend away from the cold butter, the blades on this one will cut right through. As someone who makes all of her pastry by hand still, I was glad to add this blender to my gadget drawer.
