Herb Mincer -- RecommendedSep 28, 2008
By Spyce Being pretty handy with a knife, I generally avoid products like this, but I was looking for another item to fulfill the 4 for 3 promotion and decided to get this. I'm surprised at how good it works as it does a much better job of chopping thyme and rosemary than I can with a knife. With thyme, I would remove the woody portion of the stem and chop it as finely as possible with my knife but still would have little pieces of stems that I couldn't get. Since the mincer can be moved over the herbs in different directions without lifting it from the work surface, all of the pieces get chopped or minced, and the lip on the handle allows you to scrape the herbs back to the center for mincing. The mincer can be held comfortably and securely in your hand, and it is easy to use, and just as with a knife, the herbs can be chopped coarse or fine. I have used it on thyme, sage, rosemary, parsley and cilantro with excellent results.
When the herbs accumulate on the blade, the mincer can be opened to give the blades a quick clean, and it can be disassembled for cleaning. I clean mine with a nylon bristle brush and a quick rinse under the faucet.
Though this sturdy and compact unit isn't a must have item for the kitchen, it does come in handy if you like to cook with fresh herbs.

I will be returning this item...Mar 25, 2011
By AmarrasMom Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RUGBB8QE3S17K I read all the reviews for this product before deciding to purchase it. I own dozens of Oxo products and I've never been even a little disappointed with any of them! This product, however, is a bad mark on their record. Even so, I still stand by Oxo!
So after watching my video, you will see that I've attempted to use this product to mince fresh cilantro. I washed and dried (repeatedly dried) the cilantro before beginning to use this product. I also demonstrate how dull the actual blades are by running the mincer over my hand repeatedly, and if you can't tell in the video, I pressed pretty hard and it wasn't even uncomfortable! I then go on in the video to run the mincer over the cilantro and it all becomes a huge, mushy mess. I had to film this in pretty low quality in order to upload it (Amazon requires all videos to be no more than 100 MB). So, that being said, it's hard to see how mushy the cilantro got. It was bad. The night before filming this review, I tried the herb mincer for the first time and it did such a horrible job that we didn't use the cilantro at all, since it was supposed to be a garnish but it all clumped together.
After finishing my video review I had the thought that this product would probably work for cutting wide pasta (like linguini). Unfortunately, I don't make my own pasta. So, I will be returning this product.

Oxo Herb Mincer ***ExcellentNov 27, 2008
By Michelle S. I just received my Oxo Herb Mincer and I used it
for the first time tonight. I just love it! I
have arthritis and the Mincer does a great job
with so little effort on my part and I can finally
mince as needed. And it's very easy to clean.
A very handy gadget that I am happy to recommend!

A Nice Little ToolMar 17, 2010
By Constant Reader I really like this high-quality little mincer, not least because I haven't cut my fingers since I got it. I note that the one negative review says it "mooshes" the herbs, and yes, in a sense that's true if you really steamroller them multiple times with the blades. Using a less porous chopping surface and rolling the blades more carefully produces a less mooshy effect. Still, for my purposes, this mincer/moosher does a great job with juicy fresh herbs, and even releases the essence of the herbs more effectively than single-knife-chopping, so no complaints on that score from me. It opens and closes well and the blade protector snaps on and off well - this is important if you've ever bought something cheap and crappy like the Slap-Chopper and been frustrated because it seemed to be something designed by grandpa and built by the cat.
