Description:

The Good Grips Snap-Lock Can Opener is as functional as it is elegant. Squeeze the Can Opener closed and hear the lock snap shut to hold the can securely while you turn the knob. There's no need to grip tightly to keep the Can Opener in place on the rim. Press the lock open with your thumb and it springs open to release the can. The curved handles of reinforced plastic are broad and rounded to distribute the pressure evenly across your hand as you squeeze. The oversized knob makes turning comfortable and easy.

Snap-button locks firmly to keep can opener in place

Releases with press of a button

1Don`t do it!May 14, 2000
By Allison Graham
I used to work in a cooking supply store, and I saw so many of these returned. The idea is great but the lock breaks way too easily. Most of the OXO Good Grips items are great, but they need to work on this one. If you want to risk it, get it.

3The locking mechanism brokeNov 29, 2000
By Joseph M. Siegler
Last Xmas (1999) I bought my wife two of these. The locking mechanism broke on the first one in January of 2000. The locking mechanism on the second one broke in mid 2000. From what I'm reading in the other reviews, this is a common happening.

From that part of it, the thing probably deserves 1 star. However, the thing still works as a can openener, even though the lock broke. Taken strictly on the can opener part of it, it's got a nice grip - feels better than most can openers, but probably isn't worth the extra money.

Overall, it's just "OK". If you like the rest of the Oxo line, you'll probably like this - although I bet your lock will break before too long, and it'll just be any other can opener then.

5Yes, a can opener you can get excited about!May 04, 2000
By Michael J Edelman
Who'd think a cheap kitchen tool could excite such passion among its owners? I bought mine after using one at a friend's house, and have since thrown out all the other openers in the kitchen drawer.

It's easy to use, easy to clean (dishwasher safe!) and more convenient than an electric. Worth every penny.

1Great form - Sucky functionJun 06, 2000
By Wayne Chung "c4victor"
I bought this because it is simply good design. Best damn can opener until the plastic latching mechanism failed. Being a self-righteous designer who believes in buying good design - I went out a bought another. Same thing happened.

OXO is an excellent company with many good products -- but the life expectancy of this puppy is less that a year.

5The best I've foundApr 28, 2000

This is the best can opener I've found. It's a bit bulkier than your average hand held opener, but the ease of use, and the comfortable fit made it worth the extra space in the gadget drawer.
