 Best muddler that's out there. By far.Mar 29, 2011

I looked around and tried a bunch of different muddlers. This is the best. Why?
Why not to get a wood muddler: Wood ones look nice and get the job done, but there's two big draw backs. (1) The wood gets old and falls apart if you throw it in the dish washer one too many times, and (2) muddlers made of wood that have been stained -- as a finish to make it look nice, not a "stain" -- actually are pretty disgusting. Why? Over time, the stain will wear off. And where did it go? That's right, in your drink.
So you're left with metal muddlers. This version (unlike many) is hearty/sturdy, easy to grip, long enough to work with most any glassware, easy to clean, and the nylon head will both last a long time and not scratch up your glasses. Good stuff. Buy.

I am a mojito fan and have had excellent experiences with other Oxo products, so buying their muddler was an easy decision for me. It's long enough for use with a highball glass and feels as sturdy and well-made as the rest of the Oxo product line. I love that it's dishwasher safe.

I'm a cocktail fan and Mojito is one of my favorite and have been making it for the past couple of years using wooden muddlers. I decided to buy OXO Steel Muddler, since wood muddler's don't last long enough and after a while lacquer wears off to add another ingredient to a Mojito.
Initially I thought of buying Swissmar muddler but positive reviews in Amazon for the OXO muddler and having decent experiences with other OXO products made me to opt for this OXO muddler but I think I made a wrong choice, this muddler broke into two on the first day of use. Unlike most other steel muddlers, which have all steel single handle, this OXO muddler handle is comprised of two parts - upper half that has the head with steel and the lower half with plastic and i don't think the join between them is sturdy because handle broke exactly on the join.
In my opinion and experience, this OXO muddler is poorly constructed and is not strong enough to even muddle mint. I'm returning this to amazon and plan to buy a steel muddler with all steel handle.

I bought this muddler so that I could make caipirinha, the national drink of Brazil. I am not Brazilian, and barely know anyone who has ever been to Brazil. But we tried caipirinha at a restaurant and were hooked, and wanted to make them at home. I tried crushing the lime pieces with a spoon, and the drink just didn't have the same zingy taste as in the restaurant. A friend advised me that a muddler was the key to success. I went with OXO because I have had good experiences with many of their other products: well designed, durable, comfortable grips.
All of those characteristics apply here. The OXO Steel Muddler is comfortable to hold, you can really grab it hard and mash down on the lime in the glass. The bottom is coated so you don't break anything while you are mashing, and the bottom also has teeth-like indentations cut into it so you get a good smashing while allowing liquid to squeeze out. Cleaning it is very easy, I do not use the dishwasher because it is so simple to wash.
Our caipirinhas taste great. Thank you OXO and Amazon!

Awesome muddler. wife and I had been using the end of a small wooden rolling pin to muddle mint for mojitos, this muddler has seriously improved the quality of our mixed drinks. the "waffle textured" squares does a great job of smooshing the mint without creating a lot of little green floaties. Great muddler!
