It can't be refilled, do NOT buy.May 24, 2009
By SH I would rate this zero stars if I could. It cannot be refilled. Their lifetime warranty is a trick to lure you in. First you have to contact the company for instructions on how to supposedly open the pepper pump to refill it. Then they tell you to turn the knob at the bottom to unscrew it but that never works and you end up breaking the entire mechanism. This is how they get you with their bogus lifetime warranty, once you break it trying to open it, it's all over. I recommend buying another model that can be opened easier.
They wasted money trying to patent this design, nobody in their right mind would want to copy this. You don't have to take my word for it, just do a simple search on the internet and you will see everyone else has the same complaints, it cannot be refilled. To prove my point even further, visit the Olde Thompson website and read their FAQ on refilling their devices, notice this model is nowhere there.

Help for RefillingJan 31, 2010
By LaGrangeville Jim Many people have trouble refilling this device. It refills from the bottom but when you turn the plastic wing nut, the shaft inside the glass mill turns as well and you get no where. Here's how to get it open. Insert a small screwdriver or paring knife alongside the plastic wingnut to prevent the metal ring beneath the plastic nut from turning as you unscrew the plastic nut. Since the wing nut is rather wide, you have to reposition the screwdriver or knife after each half turn. Eventually you will get the plastic wing nut (with it's attached metal bottom) removed from the mill and can pour the peppercorns in. When filled, screw the plastic nut back onto the shaft.
It isn't an easy process but if the pump feature is really something that you desire, it may be worth the effort.

the best peppermill ever!Jan 03, 2007
By Jeff Twain I have been looking for a peppermill that you did'nt have to turn, I am disabled (lost my left arm)and the turn type were very difficult to turn. This peppermill is so easy to use, you just pump it, and it pushes so easy! This thing works GREAT!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Pepper Mill FillingAug 02, 2009
By Sharon L. Slavinski I too initially was stumped on how to refill the mill. I took a parry knife and inserted the tip at the opening of the mill on the bottom while turning the plastic turn nut. I was able to remove the plastic turn nut without damaging it and refilled the mill. You have to slowly pour in the peppercorn as the gap is small for filling.

A Waste of Money at Any PriceMar 12, 2010
By Kay Ikner I loved the pump feature until I had to refill it. I asked 2 engineers and a culinary specialist to try, we all failed. I was EXTREMELY disappointed.
