I love gadgets, but am the first to complain when the gadget is horrible. THIS, I really like...I expected to hate it. I try to stay away from micros, but I am renting out an attic space and end up preparing food at school, and this thing.... ROCKS!
Fresh chicken and also frozen veggies...they all just turn out amazing. Guess I need to embrace the modern age---this thing just really cooks a variety of foods to the best quality. I don't know if it's the shape, but I can cook broccoli, or chicken and broccoli, and everything turns out evenly. I really hated myself for ordering and was expecting to vent here...instead, I'm massively loving this produt.

We use this steam cooker everyday and it is wonderful. It has especially improved the taste and healthiness of our vegetables. Food cooked in this steamer is comparable to what you get at gourmet restaurants. No surprise that we are eating more vegetables. It also does a great job with fish. We just added some teriyaki sauce to salmon and it was delicious. We cook scrumptious eggplant Parmesan in minutes just by adding marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. Cooks everything fast and is easy to use and clean. Washes quickly by hand with soapy water.
Cooking times could be spelled out more clearly. However you get used to judging the time quickly through trial and error.
A great product. In fact, I just ordered a second Orka. The 27-once in red cost about the same as we paid for the 20-ounce in blue. At less than $16, the red 27-ounce unit was a bargain and about $10 cheaper than the same size model in other colors!
We never expected it to be this good or for us to use it so often. My wife and would rate this steamer as one of the best purchases we have ever made!

Silicone has entered the cooking market in many shapes but I never imagined a steamer would be one of them. I have silicone baking sheet liners, oven mitts, cupcake pans, a bundt pan etc and I love how you need no oil...everything comes right out.
But being able to microwave or oven-cook (yep, it works in the oven too and is dishwasher-safe when done) items one would normally steam...especially some wicked good veggies in my house that I want to taste fresh and not turn microwave-soggy...this is wonderful for a fast dinner that doesn't taste fast or a way to cook great side dishes when dinner is in the oven.
A tiny cookbook comes with it with a variety of recipes from steamed shrimp and fish to chicken and cooked fruit and even creme brulee but I personally bought this for fast steamed veggies. What's great is that, because it's non-stick, I can cook them with a variety of sauces and everything just pops right out...and even recipes where I used to need some kind of fat to line a pan, I can cook in here without it.
In other words, this makes healthy cooking simple.
You can add spices to anything you steam and it just infuses the flavor into the dish naturally...like thyme or rosemary.
And, whereas you'd lose almost all of a vegetable's nutrients if you boiled them away, all health benefits and antioxidants are retained during steaming
This will pay for itself if you ever eat frozen meals. You can toss your protein and veggie in a baggie, with marinade, and then microwave for 5 min or so at lunch time and you can have a FRESH cooked meal.
This even works well for super healthy lunches...a great way to diet! For example, I tossed in some soy chicken strips and fresh asparagus spears then drizzled them with olive oil, country dijon mustard, and sprinkled on some parmesan-style cheeze and a sprinkle of garlic (optional). Fabulous! no measuring needed...no matter how much you put on it tastes good...you could forgo the olive oil but it's a healthy monounsaturated fat so I try to get some with every meal. I just microwaved that for 5 min and it tastes gourmet. Over brown rice would even be amazing if you didn't want as few calories as I ate.
And, greater yet, it's rubbery feel means it can flatten in a drawer and take up no space when I'm done!
