Description:

Removing corn kernels from cobs has never been easier. The OXO Good Grips Corn Stripper features a container that catches the kernels as they are stripped from the cob. Simply push the Corn Stripper down the length of the cob and the kernels collect in a convenient 1/2-cup capacity container (approximately one cob). Turn the cob and continue stripping until all kernels are removed. Kernels can be poured out of the top hole of the container into a bowl on onto a plate. The soft, non-slip grips cushion your hand during use and the stainless steel blade will not rust or dull. The Corn Stripper comes apart for easy cleaning and all parts are dishwasher safe.

5Corn Stripper + Kernel Collector!Sep 07, 2010
I've always liked fresh corn more than canned or frozen, but cooking corn on the cob in a big pot and then the mess of buttering and eating it had lost its novelty. So for the past few years, I've routinely used a knife to cut the kernels from the cobs onto a platter and then cook them in a small pan. The cutting takes only a minute or two, but there is the annoyance of stray kernels that bounce off onto the counter or the floor and have to be rounded up.

Yay for this terrific gadget, which not only cuts but also collects the kernels! I lay a paper towel on the counter and stand a cob on it vertically, then hold the gadget's rounded pod in the palm of my hand, position the blade about an inch from the top of the cob, and press down and slightly toward the cob. The blade slices the corn off the cob almost effortlessly, driving the kernels into the pod for collection. I rotate the cob and repeat till it's bare (the pod easily holds a cob's worth of kernels), then empty the pod into a cooking dish and repeat with the next ear of corn. My fingers/hand are never near the blade during use or when separating the gadget into two pieces for cleaning. I add some water to the corn, cover and microwave on high for 6-10 minutes (depending on the quantity and tenderness of the corn variety), drain, add butter and salt and *enjoy*!

5I really like this productAug 31, 2010
I first heard of the Oxo Corn Stripper through America's Test Kitchen, where they tested a variety of corn strippers and recommended this one. It's not THAT big of a deal to have a corn stripper - because it isn't that difficult to use a knife and because if you're making corn pudding or something where you need the "milk," you still have to grate the corn and scrape it with the back of a butter knife afterward anyway. However, I would imagine that this is very nice if you're making a LOT of corn, and I must say it was nice and fun to use. It is mostly very neat and tidy. It keeps the kernels in the cup, and though you'll still have maybe 30 kernels on the cutting board, 99% of them are contained. Thanks to the warnings here, I was careful and didn't feel that I could cut myself the way I was using the product. It has a sharp blade and does a good job. If you like gadgets and/or like keeping the kitchen clean, or have to grate a LOT of corn, you will like this.

This corn stripper cuts the corn off the cob quickly with very little effort. But, beware the blade is not protected. The first time I used it I stabbed my finger.

3Strips the corn, but doesn't catch wellJul 22, 2010
The main reason I bought this product was to avoid having flying corn everywhere as I cut the corn off the cob with a knife. The corn stripper does get the corn off the cob pretty well, but catching the corn is iffy. It catches most of the corn, but there is still corn that escapes. The clear, curved plastic part comes off easily during stripping. Maybe it's my form rather than the device, but it's still frustrating. Overall, there is less mess than cutting with a knife, but don't expect it to be perfect.
