Great little inventionAug 24, 2010 It's still messy and not all together efficient, but it is SO much easier than any other method for taking the meat off the core of a mango that I know of. I eat so many more mangos because of this device!
Great time saverJul 27, 2010 Even though this mango splitter has a lot of good reviews, I was a little skeptical as to how good it really is. Since it's pretty cheap, i figured it was worth a shot if it made eating mangos a little easier.
It works very well and leaves very little flesh on the pit. This thing has made mango eating much more convenient (which is great since i eat A LOT of mangos). However, it does tend to crush softer mangos a little bit leaving the bottom side too mushy. This isnt a huge problem since I use the crushed parts to make mango shakes, but it does get a little messy.
Overall, good product.
Pretty great gadgetJun 29, 2010 Wow! Gone is the mass of orange goo I used to end up with when trying to get the flesh off a mango. And if you peel the mango prior to using this, you don't have to slice it off the skin at all, it's ready to go. There IS a bit still left on the seed, which provides a quick snack.

Skeptic no moreJun 10, 2010 Having tried another mango cutter that was completely useless, I nevertheless picked up one of these today and was pleasantly suprised. I just used it for the first time, to make mango salsa, and could hardly believe how easily and neatly it cut the flesh in half and away from the pit with just about no waste at all. Once it was halved, I chopped the mango in the skin then removed it fairly evenly from the skin. Not as waste-free as with avocados, it did leave a little meat on the skin that I scraped off, so there was a little mushy fruit. I think it probably won't work so well with larger mangos. Now I won't procrastinate using those mangos more often for dread of handling the slippery fruit. We'll be having Martha Stewart's wonderful mango tartlets a lot more often now.

Doesn't break the skin on ripe mangoesMay 10, 2010 Works great if the mango is a little before ripe (when the fruit is still pretty firm). If you try to use it when it's really ripe, then it just smushes the fruit without breaking the skin and creates a mess. Just a bit of warning. It annoys me; it's better to use a sharp knife. Not quite worth the price in my opinion.
