As one by one our local delis ran for cover when asked to slice whole milk mozzerella cheese for lasagna it became apparent that it was now a 'do it yourself' project. Grating was a sticky failure but soon a light went on in the recesses of my brain and I remebered the hoaky cutting board cheese slicers from the 60s. After an exhaustive search locally I turned to trusty Amazon and purchased the Prodyne 12 x 6 inch cheese slicer. It is perfect. You can control the thickness of the slices and there is very little mess. Even the groove is easy to clean with a table knife and a damp paper towel or cloth. Be aware that you may need to adjust the wire initially.....in other words read the directions on BOTH sides of the sheet provided. Linda

I was searching for a cheese slicer that I could use for a large block of cheese. This slicer is perfect! Well made, easy to clean, love it!

I love my Prodyne Cheese Slicer. The price is great and the quality in tops.
I have had one for years and purchased some as gifts and another for myself.
You can also get replacement parts from Prodyne for very reasonable costs.
Set them out in different places for a party and the guest can slice their own treats.

This item is good for cutting cheese, esp. big block cheese. You need to watch the wire, though. If you push too hard and fast, the wire will kinda bend and you wont get a good, straight cut. So, you need to go slow and kinda guide the wire straight down. Once you get the hang of doing that it cuts big blocks of cheese perfectly.
The only down side to the item is that you should not use it as a cutting board. Since its bamboo, it's soft wood and you can see the knife marks in the wood. My wife found out the hard way.
Other than that, it's a good buy for the price.

My husband and I are both huge fans of cheese. This is a good thing, being that cheese is delicious, but, unfortunately, my husband is also a notorious murderer of cheese slicers. I have completely lost count of the number of cheap (and not so cheap) cheese slicers that he's killed over the years, sometimes within mere days of acquisition. When we bought our house, this was the one house thing that we got for him: this lovely cheese slicer. (He was ecstatic, by the way. I think he was more excited about the cheese slicer than the house.)
That was almost a year ago, and this thing is still going strong. It's very easy to clean and maintain, including adjustments to the wire alignment (directions are included), and we've suffered no breakage or disaster whatsoever thus far. The board is ample - quite excellent for working with large bricks of cheese, or for setting aside slices when you're making a bunch of sandwiches or executing a particularly cheesy recipe. It's a nice, sturdy slicer, easy to use, and it looks great with my other bamboo kitchen stuff.
Overall, we're very pleased with this cheese slicer. It's a survivor.
