Odd design for weight pointsDec 27, 2007
By D. Shen I bought this scale recently to replace another salter aquatronic scale that just died (1003). The odd thing about this design is that the feet of the scale control the weight points which is fine for single use. However if you try to hit zero after already loading in some items on the scale (like if you want to weigh ingredient after ingredient in the same bowl)the scale measurement actually changes each time you hit the zero button. In essence it is very difficult to reset the zero feature since everytime you push the panel, the scale thinks that you are adding weight to it. The previous models had the scale parts internal to the unit so that pushing on the frame of the scale had no impact on the measurements. However with this unit, any light touch on any part of the scale causes the measurement to change. Not very useful if you plan on using any of the buttons on the front of the scale.
Overall if you plan on only ever measuring one item at a time and don't plan on using the zero function, then this unit is fine. Otherwise avoid this type of design where the feet of the unit is part of the internal measuring mechanisms. This one is going back for me so I give it a 2/5 since it does not do everything that is stated on the box. I do not think that this was a lemon unit, just a bad design.

Nice looking but...Apr 04, 2007
By Grammy Geek I bought this as a replacement for a 3007, that I accidentally melted.
At first look, This scale is BEAUTIFUL..it's very sharp looking. Then I realized thet the buttons are not sealed, if you are using it for cooking bits of food are going to get lodged around the buttons.
The buttons are small & hard to read, the display is also harder to read than my old scale.
It's hard to clean, stuff gets between the glass and the stainless steel.
I like that it is more accurate but for my use I think the 3007 was accurate enough.
I wish Amazon had the 3009... I am going to return the 3003 probably will buy another 3007... I loved it.

loved itMar 19, 2007
By Marlys Thomas bought the kitchen scale. It's so nice looking I have it on my counter top. It is easy to use. I love the fact that you can zero the scale out & keep adding ingredients. It also weighs liquid measures. The only thing I don't like is it always defaults to grams so you have to reset it every time to oz.

Accurate, easy and practicalJan 02, 2010
By C. G. King I've had this scale for a couple of years and it still performs perfectly every time I use it. There are several ways it can be used to enhance cooking projects. I particularly like the fact that it can be stored up on edge as I don't have much counter space. I have actually stacked stuff on it when it's turned off and sitting flat and that doesn't seem to bother it, but it seems better to store it vertically so that's what I do.
I use my own receptacle for holding whatever I'm measuring--place the bowl or whatever on the scale and push the on/zero button. Then add what you want to weigh and it will weigh only the addition. If you press the on/zero button again, it will reset to zero so you can add something else and weigh only the new addition.
Having both US and metric measurements is super if you are using a European recipe that gives quantities in grams. I don't have to worry about converting it because the scale does it for me.
One button on the right front is to turn the scale on/zero and one for off. On the left front is a button for dry ingredients and one for liquid measurements. Each will show metric to begin with but will switch to US measure when you push it again.
I got the scale to measure portion size while dieting and found that using it when cooking also helped me calculate the calories in combination dishes. I also use it to get the weight of something I'm planning to put in my convection/microwave, which calculates cooking time or defrost time based on weight. The scale has turned out to be much more useful than I expected.
There is an easily accessible battery compartment on the underside when you need to change the batteries, but so far, I haven't had to. All in all, I am very satisfied with this scale and highly recommend it.

Fragile!May 06, 2005
By Charles Osborne I cannot comment on the features of this scale as I have been unable to receive one that works! The first one came well boxed and I placed it on the counter and turned it on. The scale gave a series of 8888s and then gave an error message. I called Salter and they stated the scale was broke so I sent it back. Two weeks later I got a new scale by UPS. I opened the box and one of the feet fell out. I called them up and Salter said they could not give me a new one until I sent the old one back. Since each time I have sent the scale back has cost me shipping, I calculate that this scale has cost me almost 50% over market price!
