2The good, the bad, and the uglyMay 23, 2008
By Melissa M. Bondi
The good: at $5 per utensil, this is a functional set that covers many of a novice cook's basic needs. It's safe for nonstick cookware, the handles are a functional length, and the keyholes allow for easy hanging.

The bad: these tools are actually hard plastic with inlaid silicone grips (the black tools are accented with gray silicone.) None of the benefits of silicone are incorporated into the business ends of the utensils, so in my opinion they're not silicone tools.

The ugly: Because the majority of each utensil is plastic, it melts if rested on hot pans; the utensil edges also degrade over time, wearing down unevenly with regular use. Last, the seams of the silicone inlay occasionally collect small amounts of debris to be cleaned. Sigh.

If you're looking for an inexpensive utensil set for your college freshman or community center kitchen, this may be a decent choice. For $20, though, there are too many affordable, superior and true silicone options on the market (Chef'n, Trudeau, Precidio, e.g.) to invest in these.

3Yikes! Plastic handles!!!Mar 12, 2008
By W. Siu "Gadget Queen"
Well, i was quite disappointed when i opened my package. Here i was thinking that my search for a silicone "Wok" Turner was over. The heads of each utensil is in fact silicone but the handles are plastic. I dont know if you can actually see, but if you look carefully enough, you will notice 2 different colorations on these utensils and that is where the plastic starts. The utensils are useful tho, but im sure they will be in the garbage soon with all the rest of my plastic utensils.

BTW..they also kinda look and feel cheap.

5great product!Jan 05, 2011

I bought two sets this christmas: a beautiful green for my young daughter and a black one for my mother.
They are both extremely happy with them. So I'm going for the red one for myself.
Handles are plastic which suits me well because they are very light.
The silicone looked very well attached to the plastic handles so no worries here.
Product came in perfect condition.

I was reading some comments and frankly, some people rated this set very poorly: Do they melt when you leave them on the pan? But of course! Who would cook leaving the utensils on the pan???

5Great utensilsMay 27, 2009
By Veronica Vaughn
These are very well made utensils for the everyday cook. Silicone utensils are all I will use now. Since I bought my very first one a few years ago at my local walmart I have been looking for a good set. I have finally found it! Gone are the days of nylon utensils melting and flaking off all in food :) Well worth the $20 they cost. I am considering buying several more sets for gifts.I read some negative comments about these and almost didn't buy them. I am glad I did. It doesn't take much for someone to write a negative review(people are always looking for what is wrong with an item) but for someone to write a five star review the product must be pretty great ,at least for them. If you are worried about the handles melting why not get a pot clip with your order too and then you won't have to worry about it. That's what I did.

5Best Affordable Silicone Tool SetOct 03, 2011
By Pipigurl
I hate nylon utensils because the tips inevitably melt sooner or later, no matter how careful you are. I use a wooden spoon for my nonstick pans but it still scratches the nonstick surface somehow when I try to scrape up every last bit of sauce so I have to use a silicone spatula for that purpose. This Silvermark set is just perfect! For just $18 I get a complete set! I think I paid $6 for the Pyrex spoonula, but the Silvermark spoon is much much better. It's deep enough to ladle sauces and big enough to scrape the sides of the pan. I don't need to use a spatula anymore! I got the black and it looks very elegant. The set matches my black and stainless steel kitchen. My only complaint is that the turner is quite thick so flipping eggs and pancakes is pretty much impossible. Right now I just use it for fried rice.

Contrary to some reviews, I think this set is well-made and not cheap at all. Honestly, I've never seen all-silicone utensils. Even Le Creuset has wood for handles. My Pyrex spoonula has a plastic handle. And like what one reviewer said, who would cook leaving the utensils on the pan??? If you don't leave it too long it will be ok. I left mine a couple of times for a few seconds when I had to get something from the fridge or counter and nothing happened. I have a spoon rest by the stove all the time and sometimes I use this: Trudeau Pot Clip Spoon Rest. It's just $5 and it's worth every penny.
