5Fantastic PINEAPPLE EXPRESS!!!Jul 02, 2011
By R. Taylor "R. Taylor"
I absolutely love Fresh Sweet Pineapple, as does the rest of my family. I had purchased several whole pineapples and went through the painstaking process of cutting it up.. miserable is what that is.

So, then we went to purchase the pre-cut pieces from our grocer and I'd find more and more pieces with the inedible core in the batch so we stopped buying it and gave up... until Del Monte published a coupon on coupons dot com with a deal for pineapples, buy two save $1.25, and our grocer had a sale on pineapples 2 for $2.50, we brought home 2 pineapples for $1.25!! I couldn't pass that up, was a fantastic deal!! but then I had to cut them up and I put that off until I figured out a better way to cut them up..

I went to amazon.com later that night and I looked at what my options were and found this little guy! I ordered it and with my 2 day shipping I got it in time to cut them both up..

It literally took a minute and a half to cut one of up, I was so excited! We can have fresh pineapple again!!!

It is actually very very neat how this works, it does the corkscrew type drive into the fruit slicing a perfect circular chunk out of the center of the pineapple, sliced into about 1/4 inch deep circles.

*You might want to do this in a clean sink, there is a lot of juice that will come out of your fruit*
1) First you'll slice the cap off the pineapple
2) Connect your handle to the top of the Slicer
3) Locate the Core and center the core cut out over the top of the core
4) Put Slight to moderate pressure and twist clockwise, fast or slow, doesn't matter, it will cut the same.
5) Once you've hit the bottom of the fruit you'll know, the sound will change, or you'll break through the bottom with your blade, continue to turn clockwise and pull rather than push and you'll pull out a perfectly circular hollow tube of pineapple. (The core and the Exterior of the pineapple will be left in the fruit in most cases, in a few cases you might end up removing the core as well, don't worry about that yet)
6) Take the Handle off the Cutter and place the dicer/wedger over the metal on top of a cutting board, or protected surface, otherwise the teeth on the bottom of the blade will cut into whatever you place it on
7) SPEED MATTERS HERE: Quickly and swiftly press down as hard as you're able on the dicer/wedger and it will cut your pieces into chunks - just like you buy in a can of pineapple.

Don't forget the remaining juice in the cored out fruit if you like that, if not you, maybe your kids or husband, my son jumped after it and so did my husband.

~ If your core didn't come out when you pulled it from the fruit then take a wooden spoon or other item and stick in the NOT JAGGED EDGE of the slicer and gently push out, not to fast as not to jam your hand into the end of even the unsharp end. Be extremely careful, this item is sharp and metal.

NUTRITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS: Pineapple, raw (from pineapplefacts dot info)

Pineapple is an excellent source of vitamin C and manganese. It's a very good source of vitamin B1. It's a good source of vitamin B6, copper, magnesium, and dietary fiber. Bromelain is is a proteolytic enzyme (enzymes that digest protein) found in pineapple, and to a greater extent in pineapple stems.

I hope to have helped you with your purchasing decision.

5More a necessity than a gadget if you love fresh pineappleAug 08, 2011
By Melissa Mularski
Last week I caved in and bought the pineapple slicer/wedger. I'm usually not interested in one-purpose gadgets in the kitchen, especially when they're just for fruit and cost almost $20. Now I wish I'd have bought it sooner. When I think of all the pineapples I've bought that have sat in the fridge or the counter...while I procrastinated cutting them, because:

(a) I stink at cutting pineapples
(b) I make a huge mess while cutting pineapples (my dog doesn't mind, however)
(c) I end up eating whatever I salvage out of my pineapple cuttings solely out of guilt (because, as I usually let them sit too long, typically they taste terrible)

...at $3-4 a pineapple here in Wisconsin, I've easily wasted more in one year on uneaten and overripe pineapples than the price of this gadget.

So I got my slicer/wedger, and in a week I've bought, and then cut and eaten two pineapples with it. RIGHT AFTER BUYING THEM!!! Here's a quick how-to, without making a huge mess:

(1) slice off the top and bottom of the pineapple (so you can see the yellow insides)
(2) place the pineapple in a flat-bottomed bowl or any flat dish, pan, etc. that has sides
(3) line up the slicer (with the handle attached) so the slicey-hole part surrounds the pineapple core
(4) rotate the handle a bunch of times until you've gone through your pineapple and have hit the bowl (this is very easy to do, it takes little wrist strength to rotate it)
Note: If you don't have the pineapple in a bowl at this point, you're going to need a splash guard to protect yourself from flying pineapple juice (although, when I did this the first time, my dog was again quite happy about this error)
(5) hold onto the outside of the pineapple with one hand, and, using the handle, pull the entire spiral-y pineapple insides out. There's a bit of a suction issue with this, but if you wiggle it while pulling it should come out pretty easily. Thwock!
(6) put your cute hollowed outside part of the pineapple to the side, and think about what you could do with it that would impress your kids, family, friends and/or pets.
(7) with the spiral pineapple insides still sitting in the bowl, take the handle off the slicer by pressing the buttons on the sides of the handle
(8 a) if you want a Slinky-like pineapple, just flip the pineapple over, pull the slicer out of the center and you're done. But do this over the bowl because it's juicy!
(8 b) if you want pineapple wedges instead, don't flip the pineapple over. Just get the included wedger, push it down onto the silver cylinder (with the handle off -- see 7 above), keep pushing the wedger all the way to the bottom, and you've got a whole sliced and wedged pineapple!
(9) Sadly discard/compost your pineapple's hollowed outside, because you aren't creative enough to do anything exciting with it. (That's me anyway. But I received some solace from the fact that I composted the two I've cut so far!)

It takes longer to explain than to do. Doing it takes just a minute or two. My son was very impressed, and it was the first time he's ever liked to eat any amount of pineapple I've sliced. I totally recommend this, for a gift for yourself or for anyone you know that loves fruit and wouldn't mind giving up a small amount of room in a kitchen drawer for this very useful tool.

4Astonishingly effective, but a glitch or twoAug 09, 2011
By Barry J. "Barry"
My wife recently asked me to bring home a pineapple, a request that I promptly forgot. Later, while shopping for other kitchen playthings, I found and immediately ordered this unit. It arrived, I bought a pineapple, and gave it all a try. Yikes, in no time I had a solid cylinder of pineapple, ready to be cut into segments or not, depending on what my wishes were. I chose segments, and quickly got to glitch number one - the segmenter device is not appropriate to the size of the pineapple slices that the slicer generates. Huh? Weird, but in truth, not a killer drawback - just slit down the side of the big cylinder of pineapple and press each split disc into the segmenter. A little messy, but again, not a fatal flaw.

The other glitch emerged at around the same time. It seems that the slicing portion is so effective (and it REALLY is) that it doesn't always follow the core of the pineapple, leaving the inner diameter of some pineapple discs with a bit of the hard core, instead of the yummy ripe flesh. Another non-fatal flaw, but a flaw nonetheless

So I rated the whole setup a 4, mostly because I'm still awash in the memories of the yummy pineapple, and have suppressed the mildly annoying parts. You'll probably wind up doing the same - pineapple fresh from the plant is SO compelling that you just can't stay angry at a device that makes it as painless as this one does, even though it does a couple of stupid things in the process.

3Pineapple corer / slicerSep 05, 2011
By AG
I've used this corer 3 times, with the same results each time. Unlike the photos that were shown where the pineapple is sliced and the entire core remains intact inside the pineapple, each time the core was removed with the slices, encased tightly inside the tube. It was very difficult for me to remove the core from the tube taking twice as long to remove it than for the slicing/coring procedure. It's a good appliance but perhaps the tube can be slightly larger so it grabs some of the softer meat of the pineapple, which would make it much easier to get the core out.

5outstanding product!Jul 23, 2011
By Snarf
I have decent knife skills in the kitchen but pineapples are kind of a pain. This works fantastic it's all the convenience of canned pineapple with the taste and crispness of fresh. too many times we have all bought gadgets that didn't work as well as looked on TV. THIS IS SIMPLE AND WORKS GREAT!
