Popularized by Melitta, pour over drip coffee makers are a favorite brewing method for many coffee aficionados. Simply put ground coffee in the filter, position the filter over your favorite mug (fits most common mug sizes) and pour hot water over the grounds. An insert in the filter mechanism has holes spaced out to regulate water flow and create a shower head brewing effect for even coffee grounds saturation and extraction of full flavor. If your current drip coffee maker is not brewing hot enough, this may be the way to go since you control the temperature of the water used for brewing. The filter pieces come apart for easy cleaning. Another quality product from Swissgold. | | | Product Details: | | | Average Customer Rating:

Brews an Outstanding Cup of CoffeeJan 26, 2007

Swissgold is best known for their 24K gold permanent filters. I use one in by Bunn drip brewer because unlike paper filters the gold filter does not impair any filter taste. I purchased the Swissgold KF 300 to use when I just want a single cup but to tell you the truth it makes a better cup of coffee then my Bunn drip brewer. The reason for this is because coffee should be brewed at a temperature between 200 & 205 degrees. My Bunn brewer unfortunately only reaches a temperature of 190.
You heat the water on the stove until boiling point take it off the burner and let it set for 30 seconds or so to let the temperature drop a little and then pour it into the KF300, it is as simple as that. The only negative thing I can say about the KF 300 is I wish it brewed a little more coffee at a time. When you fill up the reservoir it holds about 8 oz. I cheat a little and add a little more water when the level drops because I use a 12 oz mug. If you want a single great cup of coffee I highly recommend this brewer.

I wouldn't go to work without itFeb 03, 2010
By Nicholas Kincurd My previous place of employment supplied us with free coffee, but at my current job, that's not the case.
For awhile I tried just using instant coffee, but it just didn't taste right. Now I use ground coffee, with this awesome brewer, and I will never go back. I use 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per cup. Fortunately there is a hot water dispenser near my desk, which is just barely hot enough to do the job.
I couldn't imagine the hassle of dealing with filters and such, it's nice that I don't have to. You only have to empty out the used coffee from it into a trash, before using it again.
It only fits snugly on top of standard coffee mugs. You can use coffee mugs that are slightly bigger, they just won't sit on top as neatly. If your mug's mouth is much wider than usual, you'll probably end up using a different mug for this filter.
Just remember this particular brewer is for a standard cup of coffee, not your ultra-gulp-monster-mouth-coffee-tank-filler, and you should be alright.

This little guy is awesome!!!! No moving parts to break, eco friendly, and just the right size to fit almost anywhere. At the office you wont get stuck using up all your good coffee for other people... coffee not strong enough? Run it through a second time... was much better than my "unbreakable" carafe. Highly recomended.

I brewed my first cup of coffee with the Swissgold manual coffee maker in the afternoon at work -- so as not to make a whole 12 cup pot with the electric coffeemaker. It smelled so good that people at work asked if I used a special home made batch. In fact I just used regular Pete's Coffee. It tastes really really good, in fact it tastes amazingly good. I may end up never using the electric coffee maker again.

We own and love a pair of these...Nov 28, 2006

We have owned a pair of these for several years. It works best if you just toss the ''insert'' and line the bottom container with a regular coffee filter and use it for a pour over unit.
Using 1/4 cup of grounds makes a giant mug of coffee or 1/2 cup of grounds fills our 1.5 L thermos.
We carry them in our RV along with our favorite giant mugs and make coffee on the fly quite often.
