Butter Boy: Fun and FrugalNov 03, 2008
By ck

I never thought I'd start a review of an item by stating that it's fun, frugal and functional -- but there you are, the Butter Boy definitely is. He arrived under the Christmas tree a couple of years ago, accompanied by a set of corn-on-the-cob corn holders, so detailed that there's even a tuft of corn silk on the end of each holder. At first, I smiled for the camera and thought, "oh, cute gag gift," and begrudged him the storage space I thought he and his friends would consume.
Butter Boy is designed to hold about half of a quarter-pound stick of butter in his middle until you're ready to use him. Then you simply pop off his head and dispense the butter straight onto your hot ear of corn. His neck is curved to the same degree of arc as most ears of corn, so there's little waste or mess. When you're done, back he goes to stand ready in the condiment drawer of your fridge.
At our house, when it's summertime corn season, the little guy gets quite a workout. He's easy to wash in warm, soapy water and because of the vertical design, he doesn't take much fridge space. Cleanup of dishes is easy, too, because there's much less pooling of wasted melted butter.
EDIT: I have posted two customer images with embedded notes. Butter Boy yellow and Butter Boy green are identical in shape; the body and neckerchief colors simply are reversed.

Easy, no mess, dishwasher safeAug 16, 2007
By Q We've been using this product all Summer, with great results. Our 'normal' stick (an East Coast stick, as I understand that they are different on the West Coast) fits in fine - you do need to 'load' it from the bottom (remove the plunger, then insert), but that's not hard at all. Curved to 'fit' the ear of corn. And, we've had no issues with the top falling off. I do suppose it's true that it's not an airtight seal, but we've gone through its' capacity (1/2 stick) in no more than 2 meals, so it's not really an issue for us. It's also top-rack dishwasher safe, so clean-up is a breeze.

Simple solution to a messy problemOct 18, 2007

This little tool is a clever solution to buttering your corn without butter ending up everywhere. The butter holder fits perfectly around the corn so that the butter gets on the corn and nothing else. Clever little shape is a bonus.

How do you get the cube of butter in??????Aug 30, 2008
By Debbie J The Butter Boy is a marvelous concept. It is so EASY to spread the butter on the ear of corn. You can keep it in your fridge to pull out at a moments notice. BUT, would it not have been MORE marvelous to make the butter well the same size as a cube of butter? It is a major pain to cut down the cube ("a little more off here, now just a little more off there") to get it to fit.
