2steel pineapple slicerMay 14, 2007
By F. D. Thomas
I bought the stainless steel pineapple slicer because I had been given the plastic model. The plastic slicer did a very nice job, but I knew it wasn't going to last very long. However, for some reason the steel version is smaller than the plastic model, and as a result, the core often isn't completely cut out, resulting in some tough pieces attached to each slice. Also, since it doesn't slice as wide a diameter as the plastic model, I am forced to manually trim the pineapple that the cutter failed to remove from the outer skin, in order to reduce waste. However, the steel slicer cuts much easier than the plastic model because it's edge is much sharper. I am very disappointed with the steel model, especially since it costs 2 1/2 times as much as the plastic model.

4Slices Pineapples a Bit Too WellNov 29, 2007
By Barry Altschul
I purchased this item to replace a plastic version of the pineapple slicer. The handle of my original slicer broke after about three years use. The stainless steel version uses the same handle, so it is probably the weakest item of the slicer and may also break in the future. The stainless steel slicer requires much less force than the plastic version to cut through the pineapple. However the center coring portion of the stainless steel version is so sharp, it doesn't necessarily follow the core of the pineapple to the bottom of the pineapple. The plastic version always centered on the pineapple core.

The stainless steel slicer produces thicker slices, which is a plus. However I was disappointed to find the diameter of the steel slicer smaller than that of the plastic version. This results in useable pineapple not being removed from the shell of the pineapple. I would have preferred having the steel slicer cut at the same diameter as the plastic version.

In summary, the Pineapple Easy Slicer Stainless Steel is a useful tool for coring and slicing fresh pineapple. It could have been even better if the diameter of the pineapple slicer were the same as that of the plastic version.

5It's GREATJan 23, 2007

It's strong and easy to use. Just slice the top off the pineapple, put the slicer on top and turn, it cuts and cores in less than a minute and you have the pineapple sliced and ready to eat. Plus you can use the remaining shell as a cup or bowl. No more slicing the pineapple in half and then slicing the halfs again and again to get wedges and then trying to cut off the outer skin and picking out the "eyes" that remain in the pieces , now you still had to cut the core off and each wedge into pieces -- it was a lot of work and always made a mess.

4Pineapple slicerMar 08, 2007
By Martha Lindberg
The slicer works just fine but where the blade is attached to the handle there is a small space that is very hard to clean. You have to use a pointed knife to remove the pieces of pineapple that get stuck there. I had a plastic slicer before where the cutting blade and the handle were one piece and very easy to clean.

5It really works!Jan 03, 2007
By Kasia
I have to say I was skeptical and figured this would just be a gimmick, but was VERY impressed when we actually tried to use it. It cleanly sliced the pineapple in seconds with virtually no effort! I think the plastic version of this wouldn't wrk quite as well, as the stainless steel blade really cut right thru the fibers of the pineapple but seems like it could easily get stuck. Just be aware, if you want to use the shell as a drink glass (as the package suggests!) that it leaves the core inside :-)
