I have several Vic Firth and a few other brands of salt and pepper mills. I grew up on them so, they are a necessity it seems. These days you will find many types and makes of pepper and salt mills yet, almost all of them "chop" the pepper corns and do not have a setting which will stay put nor grind the pepper as it should.
Vic Firth has the right pepper mill and the salt mill even though it is "nylon" it does a spendid job in milling up the kosher salt chunks sold in the stores. You cannot find an easier place to shop and find great Vic Firth products than Amazon dot com.
This style is my favorite as it stands very sturdy and has a larger top diameter for big hands. My second favorite is the Mario then the Federal.

"so many recipes, so little time"
Based on other reviews, I bought this peppermill and have not been disappointed. It easily adjusts to different settings, and then actually stays on that setting. The ground pepper just seems to pour out, so accumulating a lot of 'freshly ground pepper' (as many recipes state) is quick and easy. I am so happy with this peppermill, that I bought two more and gave them as Christmas gifts.

Wanna know how happy I am with this pepper mill? I own 3.
Well 2 pepper mills and a salt grinder all from Vic Firth.
I have a 7 inch for white pepper, a 12 inch for black pepper and a 12 inch Salt grinder for my sea salt.
Lets talk about how pretty they are, the natural cherry wood with the satin finish just looks soooo good. It's got a clean soft sheen that looks a lot more modern without being trendy.
Anyway, These are very classy looking table additions.
But the real beauty of this grinder is the functionality. It's so simple that I cant believe every grinder isn't built the same! Regardless of how you set the grind it will stay there until you change it. Nice right?
Sounds obvious but I've owned 3 others that did not work that way.
It doesn't seem to cater to a coarse grind as easily as it does a fine grind, so depending on what you're cooking this can be a bit frustrating.
But for most meals and use at the dinner table nothing beats freshly cracked pepper and this does it's job.
These are great pepper mills, you'll be happy you bought one.

My fourth peppermill...this purchased according to previous reviews. I am completely satisfied with the transaction, shipping, and functionality of this product. It has a nice feel in the hand, smooth grinding mechanism, and very attractive product.

Good looking and works great. Gold nob on the top differentiates the pepper mill from the salt mill, which has a silver nob w/ the letter S on top. Easy to adjust the coarseness of the grind, unlike cheap mills. I'm very happy with both the salt and the pepper mill.
