Very happy with this millAug 12, 2010 This is the first pepper mill that I have owned and I can honestly say that I am very happy with it for the price that I paid. I have found that I do prefer the crank handle in place or a regular column type grinder because the crank mechanism is easier to work. That being said, another reviewer mentioned some jerkiness while using this grinder and that is definitely true. I don't know if I higher priced or larger grinder would alleviate that or not, but it does happen with this one.
The grinder looks good on the kitchen shelf and is a good size for 2 who frequently cook. The only other drawback is that even though we give the grinder 2-3 shakes (and sometimes a bang against the side of the bowl) we still have a kitchen shelf full of ground pepper that has come off of the bottom of the grinder. We don't really have a problem with it, but if you have a glass shelf or are really worried about stuff like that, be advised.
FantasticJul 18, 2010 For those who care, this appears to be made in the USA (CA) - this is a big plus in my book.
Seems to be made well. The grind setting (coarse/medium/fine) was a bit confusing at first but I got it eventually. The entire silver top part turns for that. So far the grinding motion doesn't change the setting like some other reviews have noted, but I could see that becoming an issue as time goes on.. but I think tightening some of the inner workings would fix it if it does happen.
Grinds great, looks great, feels great in my hand, and seems like it will last a long time. Those are my criteria for kitchen tools, and this is one of my favorites at the moment.
ground pepper fine until I dropped itJun 16, 2010 I was very happpy with this pepper mill for a few months until I dropped it in the kitchen and it broke and shattered into tons of pieces. I bought it because I wanted a pepper mill that ground pepper very finely. It did that much better than my old table pepper mill, so I was quite happy. Since I dropped it on my kitchen floor and it shattered I need to replace it. I would buy another one if I didn't think it would break if I dropped it, but now I'm looking at pepper mills that are not as nice looking, but won't break.
Pepper me with Milled Joy.Apr 19, 2010 Yes I have discovered the small joy of freshly ground pepper. But it takes so much work. Twisting twisting my wrist hurts!
This crank at the top is marvelous a few rotations the jobs is done. Outside of buying a battery operated mill this WB PepperMill is the best. I will say if you use a lot pepper you should buy the larger size though. It needs frequent refills if you are heavy on pepper. You gets large amount of pepper without a lot of work. Just imagine pan roasted asparagus in olive oil and lemon juice. Crank that pepper! oohh just sublime!
Item - great, Packaging - terrible.Feb 22, 2010 The grinder looks and functions great. It's made well and feels very solid. However, it was shipped in a box that was 10 sizes too big and the top of the grinder was removed so I ended up with a giant box of loose peppercorns. Not a good first impression. Otherwise, I love this grinder.
