Way over-priced. Poorly designedSep 30, 2004
By Brian Shaw I bought these shakers on Amazon after I dropped and broke a pepper mill that I'd been using for years. The first thing that disappointed me upon their arrival was their size; they're diminutive. I had expected them to be more substantial. This disappointment is my fault though; I didn't take note of the measurements provided in Amazon's product listing.
The second disappointment: they're very thin-walled and light, i.e. they just don't feel like a quality-made product (although the finish is fine). I'm guessing that the first drop on the floor will dent one.
Third disappointment: the filler plug on ther salt saker is a flimsy, rubber-like, pressure-fit (not a screw-in or bayonet-mount) gizmoid, and there was no pressure to fit it. Upon filling the shaker, inserting the plug and turning the shaker over to its intended functional position (upright), the plug fell out under the weight of the salt! I tried two more times (thinking I just wasn't doing something right) and repeated the salt loss both times (good thing salt is cheap). I called the manufacturer and they sent me two replacement plugs. These fit a little tighter (but not much) and solved the problem for now, but I'm guessing that with age these new plugs will experience the same sympton (otherwise, why would they have sent me two?).
Fourth disappointment: despite a claim of adjustable grind on the pepper mill, I can obtain only one type of grind: very coarse (splits each peppercorn into about three pieces).
In short: in my view, these are very much overpriced for their size and quality; had I been able to preview them before purchase, I would have been willing to pay maybe $5.00 (but probably I would have passed them by altogether). I replaced them a week after their arrival with two very nicely-made, rugged, real wood 6" shakers from a company called Trudeau for exactly the same price.

AgreeOct 10, 2004
By M. J Lane I think Brian wrote a pretty much dead on review and I just wanted to add a "me too".
I think these pieces look really cute but they are not terribly functional.

Pity those bad reviews weren't there when I bought themSep 28, 2005

"mszola"
These are not worth the money. Mine have been sitting in a corner useless for months--the pepper mill broke before it was a year old, and the salt shaker developed green corrosion (yeah, like one of those el-cheapo rings that leaves your finger green) anywhere it came into contact with salt. I got tired of cleaning the crud out of it.
They say on the site they will replace them for $6.00, but I took that $6.00 to the local bargain outlet and got a set that, while not quite as stylish, were much better made.

rip offFeb 18, 2005
By Angela Wow, the pepper mill barely works. I can only get very large chunks out of it, and it's impossible to refill. The salt shaker is just OK. If you want to pay less than $20, just go pick something up at Target for half the price. If you want something that works, get something else. I'm so disappointed!
Great Mill and Shaker SetApr 07, 2008

"gram to three"
I wanted a mill and shaker set that was brushed stainless but not heavy and this is it. Classy looking, light and well made, they go very well with my kitchen setting and are easy to handle. They even came with sea salt and peppercorns....how nice!
