 Decent Knife Block; Specific Slot Measurements BelowOct 20, 2011

There are a limited number of wide slots if you have primarily wide chef-style knives. Despite the appearance in the picture, on the block I received, the edges of the slots were not cleanly fitted together; rather than the lines being perfectly perpendicular, the small slats of wood between the knife slots were pretty rough and somewhat hastily assembled. I ended up returning this block mainly because I didn't quite care for the color. It's kind of dull and ashy in appearance. In the end, I rated this down one star due to the sloppy appearance. I'm sure it would function just fine.
With the above said, one of the reviews on the knife block I ended up with (Wusthof 35 Slot Storage Block, Cherry) included specific dimensions of the slots, so I thought I'd break out the digital caliper and post similar measurements for this block. The sizes of the slots from top to bottom, left to right, are:

I received this product in great condition and it looks just like the picture. I have been able to put all my knifes in there and I still have a couple spots. It looks great in my kitchen and I would recommend this product.

We were looking for a new wood storage bock to fit the decor of our kitchen. Almost all of them are light to medium color. This one is a beautiful rich looking walnut with nicely sized slots. All the knives fit perfectly other than a very large Japanese knife. But the Wusthof large Chef's knife fit with no problems. It holds 6 steak knives. It's the prettiest of the Storage Blocks we've seen.

Love the walnut compared to oak...May 06, 2011

With a brand new set of Wusthof knives, I really wanted to store them in something different than an oak block. This block is it. It looks beautiful in my kitchen and protects the knives when not in use. It is also a good value, as it will not ever need to be replaced. I use paste wax on it occasionally to protect the wood.

Functionally, this thing holds all of my varying sized knives, but it does take a bit of my countertop space. It should not be a surprise but I realized after I stood it on my counter. Plus, the Walnut one I received was not as glossy and shiny as the one pictured; it look more rustic and maybe a good coat of polyurethane. Wife likes it nonetheless and I guess that is all that matters.
