Wusthof Grand Prix2 knives are made in "The Cutlery Capital of the World", Solingen Germany. Each manufacturing step is performed to exacting standards by skilled German workers aided by the most modern, computer guided equipment. Some of our precise steps are done robotically and utilize the same machinery that are used to produce very well known Swiss Watches. It is this balance of German technology and old world hand craftsmanship that is the secret of how each WÜSTHOF knife is created. Known the world-over for it’s unique and uncompromising quality, Wusthof uses a special blend of German steel through out the whole length of the knife. The ingredients of this steel are proudly etched on each blade. Wusthof not only uses the best materials to make a fine knife, but it is also crucial that each blade is precisely tempered. This tempering allows the knife to hold its edge for an extremely long time, yet still be able to be maintained in your home kitchen with out the need to be sent away for maintenance. Our unique compound angle is not seen in many knives. This angle tapers from the spine of the knife to the edge to allow for a sturdy, yet extremely sharp edge while it also tapers from the bolster to the tip to give the knife strength as well as flexibility. | | | Features: | |

Excellent ValueAug 11, 2009
By Anonymous I am not the prince of France nor a professional cook, as the earlier reviewer claims to be. I am an IT professional who likes to cook for my husband and friends and family on the weekends. Since I'm not a member of the French royal family (is there such a thing anymore?) and a mere humble, midwestern lass of various Euro-American decents (a "mutt"), I must carefully stock my kitchen with the best items I can afford. In short, I HATE buying things twice. That's why I buy Wusthof knives. I already owned a Classic 8" cooks knife, a paring knife, and 6 steak knives from Wusthof. I bought the Classic knifes like 15 years ago, when I was much younger and didn't care for my knives as well as I do now. Fortunately, I bought quality back then, and with a little honing and some sharpening, my older knives are working like new again. Every tool in my kitchen should be this durable and forgiving.
This Grand Prix 2 is a nice addition to what I already had. These are a comfortable weight and well-balanced. The Grand Prix 2 knives are a wee-bit lighter in weight than the Classic knives, but that's ok with me. My husband prefers the weight of the Classic series and I prefer the weight of the Grand Prix 2 knives. Life is good.
There are a couple of knives that aren't included in this collection that I still plan to buy. Fortunately, my block has a couple of slots left open. I really want a Santoku knife. This would make my collection complete.
FYI... as of this writing the amazon.com price is $[...]. I actually bought this set from another website (a MAJOR U.S. retailer) and paid $[...]. Either price is a great deal (but I really liked saving the [...] bucks... sorry amazon).

Great knives for the priceFeb 11, 2010
By Pat Rodgers We are very pleased with these knives. The sharpness, feel and balance is far superior to less expensive cutlery. The video on care and use was a nice plus.

Knice Knives, But Not Worth The PriceOct 26, 2009
By David After reading the reviews for this line of Wusthof knives, I was expecting more. I was kind of disappointed once I used the knives. After spending [...], I was expecting blow-your-mind, awesome knives, but I certainly was not blown away by these. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent knife set, but I didn't think they were super sharp out of the box. They feel fine in my hand, but nothing spectacular. Of course they are better than what you'd get at Wal-Mart, but definitely, in my opinion, not worth the [...]I paid for these.
I am merely a husband and father who does 95% of the cooking for the family, and I wanted to get some nice things to help me in the kitchen. I always reach for these first--I spent over 200 bucks for them, so I'm definitely going to use them. The 3.5" parer is the one I use the most. It does a good job for paring and cutting up veges. Overall, I'm kind of regretting forking out this kind of money for this knife set. I think if I had a do-over, I would rather live with what I have and buy a good sharpener.
