Description:

When a more common 6- or 8-in. Chef's knife seems a little too large or unwieldy for your prep needs, reach for this Wusthof 4.5-in. Cook's knife. Fits perfectly in a smaller palm and packs all the cutting power and precision you need for dicing and slicing smaller vegetables and seafood. Part of the Classic series, this knife, made in Solingen, Germany, is hand-forged in 38 manufacturing steps by skilled craftsmen. The high-carbon stainless steel blades are hardened to maintain a sharp edge and full tangs provide perfect balance with riveted, high-impact composition handles. Wusthof's newest state of the art technology incorporates a new computer controlled method for putting the edge on Classic knives. This technology allows for an exacting edge from the tip of the knife down to the heel of the knife. With this newer precision, the knives are made sharper to 14 degrees per side for a total of 28 degrees. The knives are now sharper and this refinement increases the sharpness retention because exacting angles and edges last longer than edges sharpened by hand. The result is a knife that is 30% sharper and the ICP (Initial Cutting Performance) lasts twice as long..

5a great designMay 03, 2008

I use this knife more than any other in my kitchen. I use it instead of the full sized chef's knife for chopping and for general cutting. Unlike a paring knife, the wide blade keeps your fingers away from the cutting board. It is a very handy size and is perfect for making very finely chopped ingredients.

5A Utility Knife On Steroids (borrowed phrase)Nov 16, 2010
By Ibrahim M. Hegab "Mansy"
I'm a simple kitchen enthusiast with a perfectionist streak. This knife is definetly a diamond in the rough. I have 6 and 8 inch chef knives but this is the swissknife of all kitchen knives. It can be used for chopping parsley and and scallions into fine bits without as much as cutting a sweat or a finger. It can be used where a utility knife is flimsy but a chef knife is too big. It's very managable unlike the bigger knives and just the right weight for a novice like me. It's a must have. I would have rather bought this knife, the 6 inch chef's and a carving knife instead of the 8 inch chef's knife.

4Wusthof works.....Mar 04, 2008

This is a paring knife on steroids but it works real well for the smaller stuff (onions, garlic, etc). I'm not a Wusthof groupie but I use their products at work because they stay sharp, stand abuse can be used all day without fatigue.

5A cross between a chef's knife and a paring knifeJan 26, 2009
By K. Draper
Wuesthof makes the finest knives money can buy, IMHO. I got this one as a gift, and I was not familiar with this type of knife. It has taken some getting used to. It looks like a chef's knife, except it is short like a paring knife. I've used it for about a month now, and it has really found a niche in my knife collection. A chef's knife is great for chopping, mincing and so on, partly because of the rocker-action. But this little guy is much handier for small jobs and it rocks well, too, once you get the hang of it. I use mine with the small Wuesthof chopping block. You can also hold it in your hand to peel and cut things without using a block.

Other than that, the "product description" listed below the picture explains the knife quite accurately. I can only add that it has lived up to it's claims, and I am glad that I have it. Recommend.

Fabulous knife. A perfect size for a multitude of cutting. Weight is very good. Handle feels well and balanced. You get what you pay for and this knife, along with other Wusthof knives are worth every penny.
