Not quite what I was looking for...Jan 29, 2010

I own a Faberware that is almost identical to this unit. The Faberware comes with a medium blade (although the cut is more like the fine shred you get in packages), does a good job, and cost 1/3 as much. But the Faberware is difficult to take apart, and practically impossible to clean. I wanted something with a more coarse blade and easier to disassemble/clean. I really like the size of the cut on the rotaries used by restaurants, so, after reading all the bad reviews about the other graters Amazon sells, and the good ones about this one, I decided to take a chance.
First off, it is built as well as the Faberware, and very easy to take apart. That's the good news. But it comes with the finest grater blade I've ever seen in a rotary cutter. It looks like it was made for nutmeg, not cheese. If I only grated parmesan, it'd probably be great, but I do mostly softer cheeses. Also, for some reason, the idiot who designed this unit not only allowed the screw-on handle to penetrate the inside of the rotary blade, but they put a hole in the end of the plastic screw (just one end, not all the way through) for the apparent sole purpose of getting clogged with cheese. Add to that the plastic braces inside the blade collect cheese under them, and it is literally impossible to clean. I hope someone at Goodwill can use it, because I sure can't.

Look for effectiveness, not brandJan 11, 2010
By Michael Delvecchio I am a member or a large Italian family. We use grated cheese on many things - soup, pasta, polenta, and in general, you name it. For years I owned a metallic "Mouli" grinder - which failed a number of years ago, and I could not find a replacement that I liked. I purchased a Zyliss grinder then and had good luck with it until it warped - unsure of how. I purchased another brand (a name in kitchen appliances) that would not measure up to the Zyliss. I bought another Zyliss, it is every bit as good as before. Even with heavy use, I strongly recommend this cheese grinder.

Simply the "grate-est"...Dec 21, 2011

"Mr. Weekend"
I'll keep this short. We, me and my favorite cheese-o-maniac daughter, think this is the greatest thing since Parmesan cheese was first made from the milk of a contented Italian cow. The Zyliss grater is easy to operate. Just pop in a piece of cheese and crank the handle. It's also very easy to clean: simply remove the metal grating cylinder and wash by hand in the sink or in the dishwasher. My daughter loves grating as much Parmesan as she can atop the soon-to-be-totally-covered bolognese sauce and spaghetti. (I was a little shocked when I received it in the mail and discovered that it is made of plastic and not metal like the excellent Zyliss garlic press. I got over it quickly and am very satisfied with this product.) 5 Stars.

Great little grater.Jul 04, 2011
By L. Diaz This is a basic, simple grater that handles small jobs. Easy to clean and store. If you're looking for something to handle larger jobs, this is not the product for you.

great item, not for left handers!Jan 25, 2011
By S. Henry this item worked great, was easy to clean, however if you are left handed it is not an item easy to use. I would not recomed it for any left handed cooks out there.
