3not for small jobsSep 27, 2008

I bought this to chop/ mince small amounts of garlic, onions, etc., and it's not very good for the purpose. It's impossible to chop two cloves of garlic because they'll stick to the blades and you spend a lot of time un-stuck-ing them. It's not worth the time and effort to use it. It's good for doing a larger amount of mincing, however. This is a kitchen gadget I can live without.

5Fast and evenAug 25, 2008

This is by far one of my favorite kitchen utensils. I can dice, mince, etc. most vegetables so much faster and more evenly with this than I can with a chef's knife. Also, when I chop onions, I cry less with the chopper because the onions stay contained underneath the pastic so the fumes cannot get to my eyes. My only complaint, and it is minor, is that it is a bit tricky to clean. You don't want to just dunk it in water, because it will make the mechanical part rusty, so you have to hold the button down to clean the blade. But this is a very minor issue to me.

2Not the same chopper as it used to beMay 13, 2009
By K. Ostrach
I had a fifteen year old Zyliss chopper that I bought back when they made them in Europe. The new chopper is a sad imitation of that old chopper. When I chop garlic, for example, most of it end up stuck on the blades, or on the plastic thing that goes over the blade. Every part of the new chopper feels cheaper and flimsier than the old chopper. This new chopper is junky and doesn't chop very well. The plastic piece that fits over the blades is already losing its shape, making it difficult to seat over the blades. As I chop garlic I watch as the garlic all mysteriously disappears up into the blades and up along the sides of the interior. Maybe if didn't have the experience of the old Made in Switzerland chopper I wouldn't have such animosity towards this sad junky chopper. Don't even try onions. They just end up squished and stuck on the blades. For some reason it takes a lot more force than before to cut through onions. Please, Zyliss, go back to making quality products.

1Product fails to live up to its own descriptionDec 23, 2008
By Eric Schwartz
I purchased this product in hopes that it would satisfy three requirements:
(1) Be easy to chop vegetables
(2) Be easy to use
(3) Be easy to clean

The Zyliss Food Chopper satisfied only one of my requirements; being easy to clean.

The product descriptions states that it, "quickly cuts up fruit and vegetables". IT FAILED! I placed a small piece red pepper on a chopping chopping board and the product couldn't get through the skin of the pepper.

As for being easy to use, IT FAILED! You have to place plastic guide around the blades, which doesn't stay on very well. It is a pain to get the plastic guide in the right position to put on around the blades.

This product is being returned because it does not do what the product description states.

The search continues for the perfect small food chopper...

4love it!Mar 11, 2009

My father-in-law introduced me to this chopper years ago when you could only get it in Switzerland. I have been using it ever since and I love it! I don't understand why other reviewers have had trouble with it, perhaps they don't pound hard enough on the top. I rarely use a knife to mince garlic anymore, I just use the chopper, and yes, I have had success with even just two or three cloves. I use it almost every day. It is very easy to clean (it all goes into the dishwasher). The only reason I gave it four stars and not five is because in ten years I have gone through four or five of them (with all the pounding it only lasts a couple years or so; but then again, it's only ten bucks). I love it as much as my microplane grater.
